Are they deployable, or stand alone apps? If they are deployable, then you don't need to worry about group mappings because you can define that mapping in the roles form on the other server...but if they are in fact stand alone, you will need to bring the groups over with them to maintain your permission model. The easiest way would be to simply 'move' them....export your objects to def and import them into your dest server. Then, you have the option of exporting the data to arx and importing to destination, or you could use something like RRRChive to get it done, or even Migrator.
Thanks, I thought of doing the .def files. Also I about just taking and just Replicating the Source Server to the Destination Server. Then just disabling the other app, That way all of the Forms and Data and Workflow comes over in tack. Your thoughts?
depends on how 'clean' you want your new server to be. for the sake of only having what I wanted on my destination server...I personally would do as I suggested, but your method would also get everything over, but what would ALSO come over is your years of 'clutter' associated with an existing install which can at times be alot.
Yes very true. This is just a temp solution I'm moving it all to 7.6.4 soon. Man Remedy is a lot different then 6.3.
Thanks for your input I think your idea was the best.
The versions are actually not that different. A few new cool things to work with, but basically the same.
When you go from Pre 7 to 7, you might want to have a look at RRR|DefHideExpandBox
You can use RRR|Chive to synchronize your data. Both between your current 6.3 to the new 6.3, or between the 6.3 and 7.6.04. It is very fast and robust when it performs delta data migrations.
I would vote for setting up a new server and importing your def there. It will clean your system up, and it might be easier to go to 7.6.04 after you have done that.
