If all you are looking to display are the current open work orders, I would start by using the pre-existing view in the TRACKIT_DATA database:
You can utilize the SQL code in this view to get the proper syntax for retrieving the information you need, but I would tune it a bit by changing the initial "SELECT vb.*" to choose the specific columns you will display. You will get better performance that way and reduce the impact to your db server.

One client got around this by just buying a named license and running technician client on their screen to show the dashboard.
I love lazy clients.
I simply used Excel spreadsheet connecting to DB with the simple SELECT, and using the Status=Open to pick open orders. You can also set the autorefresh so that it stays up to date.
