When you look at a CI, you'll notice it has sections for Attributes.
All of the fields on General Attributes are common acorss all items in the CMDB regardless of where they reside as it relates to the tree (or class). Data on General Attributes resides in the Base Element object.
Fields on Specifications Attributes tab are specific to each class and if you are in the lowest part of the CMDB tree, then that CI will have all the Specification Attributes from the class structure.
Hope that makes sense.
Please note that in Spring 12, we have introduced a report to help resolve some of the data challenges. You can run the report based on Class and then export the data to a CSV or PDF.
Actually we introduced an object called the CMDB Staging object. The idea behind this is that you import once and then our program will sort the data into the appropriate classes, etc.
You can do a search on "CMDB Staging" in the Remedyforce online help and there's some information there.
I started a CMDB doc around the Staging functionality. I'll add it to my "ToDo" list to revisit and update.
Thank you for your answer. I also started working on the document listing CMDB objects/attributes mapped to Staging CMDB object fields. I'm happy to share it here when complete. What I have found, or rather cannot find so far fields in Staging CMDB object that correcpond to attributes for BMC_Share CMDB class. here are the attributes: Access Mask, Maximum Allowed, Path.
I cannot see any BMCServicedesk_SHA_.... fields there in Staging CMDB object. I beleive 'SHA' is the accronym for Share isn't it, that used in naming. I cannot find these attributes in parent objects either.
Does this mean that instances for Share CMDB object cannot be imported via Staging object?
