Integrate AR System with BMC Atrium Orchestrator

Vero NameToUpdate

Hello,

I am a beginner at BMC solutions so I need some guidance about integrating AR System with BMC Atrium Orchestrator.

I have to integrate work orders with change requests and those change requests with BAO (workflows). For example: a work order is created and it automatically creates a change request wich could trigger different workflows.

I have been trying to configure Task Management System Module but I am not sure I am in the right path.

Is it possible to do what I am trying to achieve? how? any documentation I can use?

Thanks in advance!

Regards

Verónica

I am assuming you are talking about the AO Task Management module.

your change template must be configured with tasks that will be triggered upon change approval.

ITSM will broadcast a Notify message via the Alert system, however you can construct a custom ITSM filter so that the Notify message can be specific to your use case.

The AO Remedy monitor adapter will capture this message and initiate the workflow specified in the rule.

Thank you Norman. After a few days analyzing different solutions, we think this one is the best option (we believed there was an easier way to integrate ITSM and BAO).

    Thanks again!

    Norman,

Could you assist me with the step by step tasks, procedures of how to trigger a workflow process in AO from Remedy Change Management?

The filter will allow you to automatically assign the ticket to the orchestrationuser, which AO's Remedy Monitor adapter is typically logged into as. Optionally the ticket can be manually assigned to orchestrationuser which will have the same affect.

    Hello nsnwozo!

    Basically you need to:

    1. configure Orchestrator information in Remedy

    2. create Orchestrator workflow process..

    3. filter with set fields action and datasource - Atrium Orchestrator.

    4. mapping between Orchestrator and Remedy fields/parameters.

Information can be found in Integrations document for AR 7.6

I hope that this can be helpful - if you have more detailed and specific information - write it here.

    Best Regards,

    Hristo

Where can I find any documentation that describes the integration between Remedy 7.6 and Orchestrator that uses the native Java API vs the older Monitor adapter?  I'm more interested in this documentation from the Remedy perspective so that I can share it with my Remedy team.

    Hi Jason,

The AR System Integration Guide contains the information on how to integrate via the supplied OOB AO Configuration forms and Web Services (ORCA) to initiate BAO Processes (instead of the AR Monitor and Alerts setup) - the section is "BMC Atrium Orchestrator".

The API is only used in the communication back from BAO > AR System.

    Cheers

I guess more specifically I was trying to find where that actual document can be obtained.  I tried for a very long time to find something like that in product documentation downloads, but couldn't seem to locate that specific document.

    Hello,

You can find documentation pertaining to BAO-Remedy integration at: https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/baoa201203/BMC+Remedy+AR+System+adapter.

You can view more topics on the Remedy adapter by expanding the appropriate nodes in the navigation tree on the left as shown in the following image:

Also, to view information about integrating work orders with change requests and those change requests with BAO (workflows), refer to https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/baom201203/Home, where we've documented information about each of the ITSM applications that BAO integrates with.

You can find the BMC Remedy AR System Integration Guide for 7.6.04 at: http://documents.bmc.com/supportu/documents/39/82/183982/183982.pdf. It's also attached to this post for a quick reference.

The integrations document was exactly what I was looking for Deepa thanks.  It seems that I am destined to suffer being unable to find this kind of documentation for myself.  Having been recently made aware that the "real" documentation is kept at docs.bmc.com, and not the "Product Documentation Downloads" from support.bmc.com, I tried finding this document myself.

It's very frustrating because I can't seem to find these documents on my own, and I'm not sure why I am having such a hard time locating documentation on BMC's site.  As an exaple, if I search for the exact name of the document at docs.bmc.com, e.g. "BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.6.04 Integration Guide" I get back 28 pages of links.  That's ridiculous.

Similarly, if I drill-down into the documentation from the "All Documentation" link, I don't see anything close to "Integration Guide."  But since I have your link, I found one Remedy-related link under the dashboard, and from there I found a list of PDFs that were numbered, not labelled.  Other than your link, how am I supposed to know that the PDF called "183982.pdf" is actually the integrations document?

Is there not a straightforward, concise way to simply go to a BMC product and get access to all of the documentation for a particular version, and in PDF format?

So in the interest of learning how to find this sort of thing for myself, how would you direct someone to locating this document if you didn't have the direct URL?  I feeld like this a BMC culture/insider thing because I have never experienced this level of frustration trying to simply obtain documentation with other vendors.  I've been at this over 12 years and accustomed to documentation being the easiest thing to locate, not the hardest.

    Hi Jason,

We're transitioning from PDF-based documentation to the wiki format. You can access any of our product documentation from www.bmc.com/support. When you access a product/version-specific Support page, if the documentation is available on our wiki, you'll see the "Online Technical Documentation" section and an HTML link that takes you to the wiki.

If you already know that your content exists on the wiki, you can do as Deepa suggested and go directly to docs.bmc.com.  From there, when you find the documentation that you want, you can save it as a Favorite for faster future reference.

To save a documentation "space" as a Favorite, select Browse > Advanced > Add Space to Favourites.

In each documentation wiki space, you can find the "PDFs" topic in the navigation pane, which contains PDFs for that product version.

I can appreciate your frustration about the search. It's an issue that we are addressing. Our writers will also do everything they can to place the important links where you need them. We are working on a few specific tweaks, such as ensuring that PDF file names are descriptive instead of the numerical names that you encountered.

Thank you for your candid comments and questions. If you have any questions about BMC documentation in general, I encourage you to send me a private message.
