+2 for easier copying of Object Names. I use the same process you describe to copy the exact name.
+1 for "Show FIelds not in any VIew".
+1 for multiple filtering in Dev Studio
Glad you asked. I have a few...
1. A qual in else Action section.
There are times when the else is appropriate to run, but other times when it should be skipped. If there was a qual on else action, then I could do it there, rather than building multiple workflow objects to accomplish case type scenarios.
2. A modify All programatic capability.
It is extremely useful to be ble to dynamically modify certain fields. This can be done in the tool, however, it cannot (or I am not aware of) be done programatically. A modify all action, similar to set fields/push fields action would be great.
3. Inline java/jscript capablity.
4. Better table management. It would be nice if we could manipulate table display better inside Remedy. Examples would be, DISTINCT capabilities, so I could easily return a table with only one reference to a particular value. Another would be WHERE NOT EXIST feature where values can be displayed that were in one table but not in another, based on qualifcation values.
These are the most common items that I repeatedly have to perform external to Remedy, but could, IMHO, easily be incorporated into core system.
I have a idea, add a new gerenal option to the Dev Studio "Track my modifications in Working Lists" if this option is activated for each day/week/month (make it configurable) all my changes(when i save or create a object) on any object are tracket from then on in this Working List. If many people are working on different change requests on the same server this would help allot! And it must be possible to add the content of a Working List to a Packng List.
I wanna see more functionality to comment the code.
Why not implementing Application Layer Gateway Service for BMC-REMEDY?
BMC should change the concept initial build by REMEDY by making the system database dependent by tracking all activity on ARSYSTEM and perform the result.
The prospect or new system should have multi table-spaces each tabvle-space dedicated for BMC application (i.e. Atrium CMDB, CHM, ASM, SRM, … ) and to implement Application Layer Gateway Service and that is by creating a service to listen for ingoing/outgoing application traffic from an application client. It extracts the port that the application client is expecting to receive data from and creates an appropriate dynamic port mapping for the BMC-application data channel.
I would love to see workflow object reusability concept implemented in Remedy. There should be some way to create reusable objects using Remedy ARS system. Once created, those objects or group of objects should be used directly by other Remedy applications that exists in same server or should be easily exported to be used with other Remedy applications that exists even in different physical servers.
Current functionality of sharing of objects (for example sharing workflow objects with multiple forms) is useful however it has it's own limitations.
That is a great idea! Very Object Oriented!
Would like to see a complete glossary of all Remedy acronyms, abbreviations, and terms; including all the workflow object prefixes.
A simple idea:
When I create e.g. a new button on a form, the possibility to right click on this button an choose:
- create new active link for this button
- include this button into an existing active link.
I think this would make development a little faster, right?
Maybe for other trim objects this kind of functionality could be useful, too?
For fields it could be additionally a right click with choosable
- create filter or
- include to existing filter...
I'd like to have the possibility in AR Migrator to search for forms with a "contains" string,
e.g. show all forms with name that contain the string "Load".
The Filters and Active Links work in this preview. Basically Dev Studio is invoking a browser window within it so you have full functionality. If your Mid Tier cache is configured appropriately it will recache each time the form is opened.
That said some enhancements could be made:
- Allowing you to specify the user you want to preview as.
- Typically I do not want to preview a form with my account that has Administrator permissions.
- Also some forms/processes do not work without a little setup before the form opens. Being able to give a form some context before previewing would be very helpful.
- An example is building a Display Only form with numerous collapsed panels. Which panel displays depends on data that is passed in the Open Windows action.
- Allowing you to specify the user you want to preview as.
LOL! Look at that... I thought I was replying to a new post. Not only was it an old post but I already replied to it back in August. I guess it show how strongly I feel about these to bullet points
Many JSS (and high profile BMC) customers keep telling BMC to install SSO Plugin by default in all AR System / Mid Tier builds, but they don't seem interested. We've even offered to help them delivery a quality service but they prefer to ship a product without an SSO implementation.
On the other hand, HP have been very helpful and assisted JSS in deploying SSO Plugin for HP Service Manager and Service Request Catalog.
SSO Plugin for BMC, HP and more.
The ARSys web service error handling is pretty sad - it returns an unexpected and un-parsable result that throws exceptions deep in java/python frameworks. This means that we can't tell a login error from a code error and that we will have to investigate every user problem instead of writing code that can tell them how to help themselves - like "your login failed - check spelling". It be great if an error returned a parsable xml response instead of an html page.
For example, ARSys web services use a proprietary BMC authentication system encoded in the header. When authentication fails, a general HTML 500 error is displayed. The error you will likely see is a parse error as it chokes parsing what should be a SOAP response.

<div id="header"><h1>Server Error</h1></div>
<h2>500 - Internal server error.</h2>
<h3>There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.</h3>
I would love to see a remedy form that could show either a flow chart or explorer view of object names and actions from a LOG FILE
some thing like Atrium core shows in class manager... that would be extremely helpful and awesome
