Hello All,

                      I am trying to Install RSCD Agent on a solaris box, but while the installation is going on, in between i got an error that the installation process were in hang state at "Checking for Random Hardware Device". The Installation proccess were stucked over here, and nothing is moving further. here i am attaching the screenshot of error. please look into this and suggest me, that how can i move ahed???

Waiting for a positive reply from you all mates........

    This is usually because of problems with random generator or randonmness with the system

    Look at this

    https://communities.bmc.com/communities/thread/52760?start=15&tstart=0

    It has a good way of testing if ran generator is working fine

    If you have openssl installed on the system, you can check if it can read 1024 random bytes from the random device using following commands:

    bash-3.00$ which openssl

    /usr/bin/openssl

    bash-3.00$ ls -l /tmp/1024.log

    ls: /tmp/1024.log: No such file or directory

    bash-3.00$ openssl rand -out /tmp/1024.log 1024

    bash-3.00$ ls -l /tmp/1024.log

    -rw-r--r--  1 dgaigole man 1024 Apr 18 12:51 /tmp/1024.log

    bash-3.00$

    Check how long does it takes to run the above openssl command. If it takes long time, then there might be some issue with your random device.

    Also,

    u can get the entropy stats on the system using mdb command

    $ uname -a
    SunOS winnie 5.9 Generic_117171-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10

    $ mdb -k

    Loading modules: [ unix krtld genunix ip lofs nfs random ptm ]> ::rnd_statsRandom number generator statistics:    8192 bits of entropy estimate       0 bytes generated for /dev/random 5998456 bytes generated for /dev/urandom 2277764 bits of entropy added to the pool   94006 bits of entropy extracted from the pool 4849216 bytes added to the random pool     240 bytes extracted from the random pool

    With Solaris 10, you can use the “swrand_stats” and “rnd_stats” dcmds to get entropy statistics:

    $ uname -a
    SunOS sparky 5.10 s10_69 i86pc i386 i86pc

    $ mdb -k

    Loading modules: [ unix krtld genunix specfs dtrace ufs ip sctp uhci usba nca random lofs sppp nfs crypto ptm ]> ::swrand_statsSoftware-based Random number generator statistics:    8192 bits of entropy estimate  861095 bits of entropy added to the pool    8480 bits of entropy extracted from the pool 2318888 bytes added to the random pool    1060 bytes extracted from the random pool> ::rnd_statsRandom number device statistics:       0 bytes generated for /dev/random       0 bytes read from /dev/random cache      36 bytes generated for /dev/urandom

    Rohit,

    Please check the below command output.

    Hi Shirish,  What was your solution?  Regards

    You can append to your path (and you'll need LD_LIBRARY_PATH too):

    PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/ssl/bin

    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/ssl/lib

    export PATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH

    Hi Elindeman,

                           Actually what happend that, while you are performing RSCD Agent installation, some times it is stucked over "Checking for Random Hardware Devices" so here Installation is moves to "CD /dev" and here its looking for "urandom" or "random" files, which stores random numbers generated for hardware installed on server machine, when it got mismatch in these number with Hardware device, the installation understands that the "Hardware Infromation is Available BUT The Hardware doesn't Exists in the Machine", so for this thing, The Installation is looking for some installation parameters, which are neccesary for installation, and when he doesn't found that, the Installation won't be move further, so for this reason we have to modify, or we can say, we need to set these parameters, by setting up "LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/ssl/lib" and then we need to export it at right directory, from where the installation will took this directory.

                                 So  After set up these above parameters "LD-LIBRARY" you will able to Install RSCD on your  Solaris Boxes Successfully........

    Thanks & Regards,

    Shirish Katariya.
