1. Re: BL 8.0 SP5 - adding a RedHat channel
R V Sep 8, 2010 9:15 AM (in response to Craig Dockter)I had a look in the libs-directory off the "All-OS-Patch-Downloaders-linux-build-8.0.01-26.tar.gz". There is a file called "support-files-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar" (you can just unzip it to see the contents) and this contains (including the classpath) "com/bmc/sa/patchfeed/redhat/redhat-channels.xml".
You can unzip, update and repack (of course using the jar-command included in the JDK) this archive.
Maybe that works as I expect (I didn't even tried this) - just give it a chance - BUT: maybe this solution is not supported ;-) (any official opinions about this?)
Regards,
Reinhard

1 of 1 people found this helpfulThere was a version of the patch downloader released that supports this. you may need to talk to support to get this.

Kristen Monteith Apr 24, 2012 2:50 PM (in response to Craig Dockter)Hey, since it's been a year and a half on this thread ... is there a different (possibly supported?) method to get supplementary channels included in RHEL patching?

Create an offline rhel catalog and use the offline downloader. The latest offline downloader can download from multiple channels.

5. Re: BL 8.0 SP5 - adding a RedHat channel
Kristen Monteith Apr 25, 2012 8:53 PM (in response to Bill Robinson)Hmm… I am unsure if my problem is that I’m struggling with the syntax for the offline downloader or if I’m too many BSA patch releases back. I’m running 8.1 SP2 and I just found this in the KB regarding fixes for 8.1 SP3…
QM001716019
Red Hat child channel support was not available in offline patch downloaders.
When you say ‘the latest version’ of the downloader, do you mean SP3 or later? Can I use a more recent downloader with SP2?
Thanks

Try the SP4 or the 8.2 downloader.
For the multiple channels you’ll just have multiple channel xml blocks in the downloader file iirc.

Kristen Monteith Apr 27, 2012 5:04 PM (in response to Bill Robinson)Is there any way to include non-subscribed repos? (e.g. Fedora EPEL)
thanks

You can’t use the downloader. Use reposync or something like that to pull the payloads down. then use the ‘createrepo’ option of the downloader. Look in the user guide – there is a section on using the downloader to import custom repos. Then point the catalog at that folder.

10. BL 8.0 SP5 - adding a RedHat channel
Craig Dockter May 21, 2012 11:37 AM (in response to Craig Dockter)Sorry to keep this thread open for so long. I'm still struggling to get the RHEL 5 server supplementary channel as an offlilne repository. I have since upgraded all app servers to 8.1SP4 and I am currently trying to use All-OS-Patch-Downloaders-linux-build-8.1.04-01. The issue I'm currenty having is related, but slightly different than the original thread. The offline downloader insists on going to the internet direct, regardless of any proxy settings in the XML file. Even trying to just '-listChannels' hangs because it is trying to get directly to RHN. I'm trying this again because I saw the same update regarding adding the RHN child channels.
Any ideas where to start with the proxy issue? I copied the sample XML and only changed the proxy information to match our environment. Our proxy requires authentication so I have tried many different combinations of proxy name / IP address, domain name, encrypted / plain text password, and proxy type. The downloader still goes direct, ignoring all proxy entries.
Thanks!

If you can hang out for a couple of hours, I’ll spin up a webex, and we can work through it.

12. BL 8.0 SP5 - adding a RedHat channel
Craig Dockter Jun 1, 2012 1:08 PM (in response to Craig Dockter)I'm giving Sean the correct answer to the original problem and our latest issue with our proxies. After working with it a little while we tried the latest and greatest downloader from 8.2, All-OS-Patch-Downloaders-linux-build-8.2.01-8 to be exact. This version of the downloader connected to RHN via our proxies and retreived all the channels. So far I have set up 2 offline repositories and based RedHat Patch Catalogs on them. Thanks Sean!
