Primary_AIX_Target parameter in downloader.conf for VPC

Samsung BSM

Hi All,

AIX patching using VPC.

There is one file (Downloader.conf) which requires to download the patches (.bff) using offline aix patch downloader.

Does the Primay_AIX_Target parameter really require in this file if we use the aix-patch-downloader on unix platform?

Primay_AIX_Target=<AIX TARGET 1>

thnx in adv.

    Yes, this is required, this needs to be an Aix box , other unix variations will not work. The box will be used to generate metadata also known as deps files .

    You should be able to access this aix host with nsh meaning proper user mapping and ACLs should be in place.

    thnx Rohit.

    One more thing i want to know that can we download patches directly from vendor sites directly if we know appropriate patches. If yes, then it means we can skip aix patch downloader steps.

    Plz suggest me...

    There is a way to get the Patch Levels direclty from the  vendor

    but you do need to use the AIX downloader if you have installed your VPC In offline environment, the downloader is the only option to populate the AIX policies directory that contains a filesets.txt for each PATCH level requested.

    ALso, you again need the option of downloader to generate the metadata (called .deps files ) for each patch.

    In a way, if this is offline environment , you *have to* use the downloader in one or the other way

    How are you trying to use the VPC AIX funcitonality ?

    What is your patching strategy for AIX ? Which patch levels ?
