Strange Issues with Windows Patch catalogs

Steffen Kreis

Hi,

we have created two separate Patch Catalogs in BL 8.1 SP2 with the following identical filters:

Windows Server 2003 catalog agent-copy:

     - Windows Server 2003

     - .NET

     - Internet Explorer

     - MSXML

     - MDAC

     - VisualStudio

     - CAPICOM

Windows Server 2003 catalog via PXE

     - Windows Server 2003

     - .NET

     - Internet Explorer

     - MSXML

     - MDAC

     - VisualStudio

     - CAPICOM

The first catalog is set to "copy to agent at staging" and the other one mounts the patch from our PXE stores.

The catalogs have been created at a different point in time.Apart from that everything else is the same.

Both are filled from the same patch-download server, so they are set to offline.

Both use the same shavlik xml files from the depot.

Both have been updated this morning successfully (no warnings in the log).

The problem we have is that we see a difference in the number of bulletins beeing marked as obsolete (IS_OBSOLETE = true).

One catalog shows 300 beeing obsolete while the other ones only contains 285 obsolete bulletins.

Comparing the list we picked out a simple example:

MS09-044

     - The PXE catalog lists it as beeing obsolete and superceeded by MS11-017 (Which is actually true looking at microsoft.com)

     - The agent copy catalog shows this bulletin as not beeing obsolete (IS_OBSOLTE=false) and also contains no superceedens info.

I could pick other examples to highlight that, but there is a difference of 15 bulletins.

The total number of bulletins is 582 on both catalogs.

Has anybody seen a similiar thing and can advise how to fix this ?

Regards

Steffen
