thanks fro answering ...But i read em ...
"Companies for which you provide support."
But i still find it confusing ...If i m offering support to three diffferent company say A , B , C ...en all three are my operating company ...But who am i for them ????
More over if they r my operating company then why i need to define there catalog , there structure...doit make sense ???
"Companies for which you provide support." sounds little bit confusing. But It means Company who provide support to other company is a operating company. So if X-company provide services to A,B,C then X-copmany is operating companyand A,B,C are customer company.
Catalog are used to define to what type of product and operational services the operating company cater to.Prod cat and Op cat are also used for assignment purpose.
Hope it will clear you doubt.
If you are providing services to other Company, Other company should be have company type as Customer. Otherwise assignment rule will not work. So operating company may be a customer company when we add the company type as Customer.
In your case, you are providing services to A, B, C means your company type should be Operating Company and A, B, C should have comany type as Customer.
Hope it will give you some idea.
here is an explaination of the different types:
Company Types Operating Company Business units or entities that are part of the internal support organization and is associated with Contacts and Support Groups. Customer Business units or entities supported by the organization and is associated with Contacts. Vendor External companies providing support and/or supplies. Associated with Support Groups and Vendor Assignment. Manufacturer External companies providing products and/or services. Associated with Product Categorization. Supplier External companies providing supplies. Currently for informational purposes. Generic Contact Companies without a formal business relationship. Associated with People Profiles.
As multi tenancy is done at the Company level, you need to understand the importance of the different Company types and data that is segregated with the different types (not just Assignment).
There are many discussions on here available for reading, along with the training materials and guides supplied by BMC.
