How to take AIE / Recon job back up

      Share This:

Hi - Could anyone please advice on how to take back up of AIE & Recon jobs into a file and restore it later?

      Environement : ARS 7.1, Windows 2003, Oracle 10.

          Reconciliation?

You can export them in Xml from Atrium Core "Reconciliation" application, there is an "export" button in the flex console.

In fact, I'm using an older version of remedy/AIE (ARS 7.1, Atrium CMDB 2.1 patch 5 and AIE 7.1 patch 5)

When I do "export" recon job, I'm getting an .ARX file as output. In that, there are lots of schemas defined starts with RE:

Do I need to import the records one-by-one? - Is there any command line to do this?

Also, how do I back up the AIE jobs and restore to another server or same server after a database refresh?

Yes there is. arimportcmd will do this for you. Locate this executable in the AR install directories, and there is a -help type option from memory

              i.e. arimportcmd -help or similar

That will provide the command line syntax you need. It is very similar to most of the other AR command line conventions.

The beauty of this utility is that it will process multiple form imports from a consolidated ARX file like the one that you get from the RE export function.

For AIE 7.1 there is an option on the Data Exchange menu to export your AIE data. It also creates an ARX file you will need to import using the above utility. Please be careful with this option in AIE 7.1 as it is an 'all in' export of everything AIE needs, so all exchanges, mappings, connection data, instance data etc etc.

Importing this directly into another environment wont always give you the results you want. But as a back-up mechanism (i.e. you will use it to restore back into the SAME environment), it's OK.

It worked well.. - Thanks a lot.

An additional question: Can I edit the file and change the server name and insitance name what is there in new server? - will it work?

Yes, in general.Take a look at the ARX file in a text editor like Wordpad. For each of the schema (form) groups, see if there is any server/instance specific data you would need to change before importing into a new environment. Make the changes carefully and then import. Generally you only really need the data exchange and mapping forms repopulated when going to a new environment. BackupLoadFlag entries should be removed as these will screw up an existing environment if imported over the top. I'd strongly recommend testing this out for your first try, in an environment other than your production one. You can then see any unwanted side effects and deal with them. Also - AIE 7.6 has a much improved export mechanism that looks like it allows more choice and control of what gets exported/imported. I am pretty sure AIE 7.6 can be used with your older CMDB and AR versions - please check that compatibility out. If it IS supported, then an upgrade to AIE 7.6 will provide the above improvements plus a few other nice functions.

do we have any other way to export recon jobs using command line.

User tool has an AIE menu which can export the exchanges to a target AR server as well to an .arx file. One has to mention the name of the directory and then it will generate a file AIE_Configuration.arx  in the mentioned folder.

                          -Thanks

                            Hi careyw,

I'm  also interested in exporting importing larger amount of AIE jobs (data exchanges and mappings). You've mentioned that arimportcmd tool can be used to automate it. Do you know from which forms should I export data to have all that's required?

You have also mentioned that there was Export function in AIE 7.1 - It doesn't seem to be available in 7.6.04. Has it been discontinued?

                            Best Regards,

                            Ariel

Exporting of the AIE Job can be used with Export fuxtion that is available in AIE on 71 as well as on 7604 and it has not been discontinued.

AIE 7604 will show an option of Exporting data into two forms

                              1) On Target Server or Production Server

                              2) In the form of arx file

When we export data into arx format it also get some extra data in the form of schema (EIE:BackupLoadFlag,EIE:ApplicationSettings,EIE:VendorConfiguration) which should not be used when we will use import functionality as it can mess up the data on target server so please remove these 3 schemas before doing actual import.

For any Exported Data we can use arimportcmd which is available under ARSystem directory of 71 or JavaImport for 75 onwards.

Parameter can be arimportcmd -x servername  -u Demo -p "" -a Port  -o "DataFilePathof ARX file)

                              Thanks,

                                HI Praveen,

Thanks, I've found the answer also. Works ok server to server for me so I don't have to modify .ars files manually.

                                Regards,

                                Ariel
