Please, can we ensure the Product Catalog categories / recommendations are consistent between all sources?
Currently, there are too many sources of information when mapping CIs to the Category, Type and Item (Tier 1,2,3) in CMDB.
- The "Mapping your Data" spreadsheet has one recommended way of categorizing CI data in the Product Catalog / CMDB
- ADDM has one default way of categorizing CI data in the Product Catalog / CMDB
- Remedy / ITSM installs with a default categorization
- Other integrations to CMDB, like BBSA, BBCA etc has a default way of categorizing CI data in the Product Catalog / CMDB
None of the above align with each other and they certainly do not work well for customers with a case sensitive database, where "Processing unit" and "Processing Unit" are two different entries.
Secondly, the "Mapping you Data" spreadsheet is really out dated (even if the most recent version says 8.1). It contains old and irrelevant data and examples and lacks information / recommendation on more commonly used and modern IT infrastructure items.
This means that implementing the Product Catalog and utilizing the Remedy functionality like Assignment Routing, Approvals, Reporting, SWLM, etc is a difficult task because of the inconsistency in this area.
I expect that installing Remedy / CMDB / ITSM and using OOTB BMC integrations to CMDB (ADDM, BBSA etc) they are all populating the CMDB using the same Product Catalog structure and we would not have to customize an out of the box integration. I don´t think it is too much to ask.
@Stephen Earl, hopefully you can shed some light on this?
