This is essentially two requests into one:
My understanding is that a PO has to be generated, which in turn creates an asset (if selected), and then the Asset Name is changed to match the Asset Name for the discovery/auditing to link the record.
It would be ideal to allow the functionality to link the PO to an existing record in Asset Management, and not only create a record.
In addition, if a customer has accidentally clicked create asset (instead of the proposed link to existing record), there should be the ability to merge the record information into an existing record, which essentially writes the financial information from the accidentally created record into the existing record and then deletes the record.
If there is already financial information in the record, then perhaps a warning message to state the information will be overwritten.
