    APPLIES TO:

BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation (5 Report Viewers, 1 Query Studio)

    PROBLEM:

A new console was added to BDSSA in 8.5 called the BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Console.

This is typically configured on one of the following URLs depending on whether http or https is configured:

    https://server_name:9443/bds
    http://server_name:9080/bds

The BDSSA Console is used for post install/upgrade configuration and also for every day BDSSA tasks such as monitoring URL, changing DB passwords, running warehouse archiving, modifying email information etc. It is not to be confused with the BDSSA Cognos Portal which is used to create and run reports. Accessing the BDSSA Console is described here.

What do we check when we cannot access the BDSSA Console URL?

    SOLUTION:

    Legacy ID:KA418031

    1) Ensure that the Reports Services are started correctly on the BDSSA Server:

    Linux/Solaris:
                       /etc/init.d/blreports stop
                       /etc/init.d/bltomcat stop
                       /etc/init.d/blreports start
                       /etc/init.d/bltomcat start

    Windows:
Stop/Start the "BMC Decision Support for Server Automation Tomcat Web Server" service
Stop/Start the "BMC SARA Authentication" service
                       Stop/Start the "Cognos 10" service
                       Stop/Start the "Apache2" service

    2) Ensure that the BDSSA Console port is listening as expected i.e.

Unix: netstat -an | grep 8080 or netstat -an | grep 9443
Windows: netstat -an | findstr 8080 or netstat -an | findstr 9443

    3) Retest the BDSSA Console URL and, if it still cannot be reached, check the following logs:

    $BDS_HOME/logs/bds-ui.log
    $BDS_HOME/logs/tomcat_out.log
    $BDS_HOME/logs/tomcat/logs/*

These logs will contain the events specific to the Tomcat URL for the BDS console and will not contain events for other BDSSA components such as Cognos, Apache, ETL etc.
