    QUESTION:

How to restart the Discovery appliance services

    ANSWER:

You can restart the services from the UI or from the command line.

    1- From the appliance UI:
Go to Administration > Control, then click on "Restart Appliance Service". See https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/DISCO111/Shutting+down+restarting+and+maintenance+mode.

    2- From the command line:
    - Connect to the appliance using ssh and login as user tideway.
    - Run the following commands to stop the services:

      sudo /sbin/service tideway stop
    sudo /sbin/service cluster stop
    sudo /sbin/service omniNames stop
    sudo /sbin/service appliance stop

      - Check for any leftover processes by running:

        ps aux | grep python

and check that the processes are gone. There might be a watchdog process, but that's ok. If there are any others, kill them.

    - Restart the services:

      sudo /sbin/service appliance start
    sudo /sbin/service omniNames start
    sudo /sbin/service cluster start
    sudo /sbin/service tideway start
