    PRODUCT:

    BMC CMDB Suite

    COMPONENT:

    BMC Atrium Core

    APPLIES TO:

    BMC Atrium CMDB Suite

    PROBLEM:

The following list of errors is not exclusive to the issue and can be applied to other issues where the symptom includes the following error words:

ARERR [Some Error Message Code in the Java Plugin Error range]
"Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System Plug-In server <server name>"
Error subtext: "RPC: Miscellaneous tli error - System error (Connection refused)"

Other possible error may include Reconciliation with arrecond.log entry:

Cannot merge activity while run Reconciliation job ARERR [Some Error Message Code in the Java Plugin Error range]
Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System Plug-In server (9556)

The following plugin error usually relates to AtriumCore Plugins:

    BMC.FILTERAPI.NORM.ENGINE, BMC.ARDBC.DEPRECATION.PLUGIN, BMC.FILTERAPI.NOE, etc.

LP: BMC Atrium CMDB Suite 7.6.04 Up to SP5
DR: BMC Atrium Core 7.6.04 Up to SP5

    CAUSE:

Incompatible Java communication protocols related to IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) where the AtriumCore plugins are setup to listen using IPv4.

    SOLUTION:

    Legacy ID:KA392364

To solve this you'll need to add IPv4 enforcement to all Java API loaders in AR configuration files that start these plugins.

    For example:

    < armonitor.cfg >
    "<SOME_JAVA_PATH>\java" -Xmx512m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Djava.net.preferIPv6Addresses=false -classpath "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr7604_build002.jar" com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x <server name> -i "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" -m
    [……]
    "<SOME_JAVA_PATH>\java" -Xmx512m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Djava.net.preferIPv6Addresses=false -classpath "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\fts;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr7604_build002.jar" com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain --unicode -x <server name> -i "D:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" -m

You may use Jre6 instead of the bundled Atrium java (replacing the above marked part with the following marked part), however there is no security benefit to using java other than the bundled one as these plugins are limited to communication between the ARS and Java Plugins and not available to end users.

    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java" -Xmx512m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Djava.net.preferIPv6Addresses=false
