RKM how to configure a Thesaurus

    PROBLEM:

     When we search the KB for "passwords" we get 200 or so results. If we search
    "password" we get over 500 results. We are wondering if something can be
    done so plural words get searched the same way.

    Here are the steps to configure the Thesaurus in KME / RKM.

       

     

       

    1. Go to the KME / RKM server.

       

     

       

    2. Go to "c:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\fultext" folder.

       

     

       

    3. Create a text file named "kms_tenu.fts".

       

     

       

    4. Open the "kms_tenu.fts" file in Notepad.

       

     

       

    5. Add the words for your thesaurus in the following format:

       

     

       

    word word word;

       

     

       

    Example:

       

     

       

    password passwords;

       

    payment transaction installment;

       

    adrift afflicted agitated ashamed astray;

       

     

       

    6. Save the "kms_tenu.fts" file.

       

     

       

    7. Open a DOS command prompt.

       

     

       

    8. Change directory to "c:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\bin".

       

     

       

    9. Type: fthmake "c:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\fultext\kms_tenu.fts" "c:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\fultext\kms_tenu.fth"

       

     

       

    10. You should then see that a "kms_tenu.fth" file was created in "c:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\fultext".

       

     

       

    11. Make a backup of the "\Program Files\BMC\Knowledge Management Express\data\kms_conf\KMS_config.xml" file.

       

     

       

    12. Open the "\Program Files\BMC\Knowledge Management Express\data\kms_conf\KMS_config.xml" file in Notepad.

       

     

       

    13. Look for: name="quick_search"

       

     

       

    14. At the end of the line where you found name="quick_search", you will see: thesaurus=""

       

     

       

    15. Change the thesaurus="" to:

       

     

       

    thesaurus="C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\fultext\kms_tenu.fth"

       

     

       

    16. Look for: name="search"

       

     

       

    17. At the end of the line where you found name="search", you will see: thesaurus=""

       

     

       

    18. Change the thesaurus="" to:

       

     

       

    thesaurus="C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\SearchServer 5.4\fultext\kms_tenu.fth"

       

     

       

    19. Save the "KMS_config.xml" file.

       

     

       

    20. Stop the "Apache Tomcat" service.

       

     

       

    21. Start the "Apache Tomcat" service.
