Cannot start RSCD agent "daemon already running"

    PROBLEM:

     

      The Microsoft utility HfNetChk (part of the MS Baseline Security Analyzer) binds to port 4750 (the same as our agent) which results in our agent being incapable of starting up.  
     
    When trying to start the agent when HfNetChk is running, you will see the following in the agent log file: "Unable to open main agent socket (_net_open failed). You may have another daemon already running or a lingering (previously connected) client."

    SOLUTION:

      Stopping HfNetChk on that machine and restarting the agent allows for normal operation.
