Trying to run qpreg from command line on Linux ( bash and sh ) Unix ( bash) command shell does fail with event not found error.

    Command example:  ./qpreg –l  "WebSphere MQ Monitor" "ComMQSoftwareWebSphereMQQueueManager!ComMQSoftwareWebSphereMQLocalQueue" "QueueManagerName!QueueName"

Shell output: bash: QueueManagerName!QueueName: event not found

    SOLUTION:

    Legacy ID:KA390048

The error happens because the bash interpreter is not detecting the ! in the qpreg command as a character string, to get qpreg working either switch to ksh shell or enclose the parameters that the shell interpreter will not recognize as character strings, these are for Unix based shell often single quotes ' ' instead of double quotes " ".

The example below is a single line, for more information regarding qpreg, please check the Agent and Extension Guide, Chapter A,  BMC Extensible Agent and Extension Files Files

    ./qpreg -l 'WebSphere MQ Monitor' 'ComMQSoftwareWebSphereMQQueueManager!ComMQSoftwareWebSphereMQLocalQueue' ' QueueManagerName!QueueName'
