    PRODUCT:

    MainView SRM Reporting

    APPLIES TO:

    MainView SRM Reporting

    PROBLEM:

    In MainView SRM how do I check the cause of the message:
    SVO5003I VTOC SCAN ENDED ON THE MASTER. RC=04, REASON=INCOMPLETE DATA SET STATISTICS

    SOLUTION:

    When VTOC SCAN runs, it can encounter multiple errors when attempting to gather data set statistics on behalf of many data sets.
    In particular, when the ending message is "SVO5003I VTOC SCAN ENDED. RC=04, REASON=INCOMPLETE DATA SET STATISTICS", then none of the errors encountered were severe enough to cause VTOC SCAN to terminate. To see what the specific errors were, please review the VTOC SCAN output by selecting one of the Data Set List views. If an error occurred on behalf of any single data set, then error text will be present under column heading "Error Message".

    To see further details on the causes of this message, you can check the WBVTOCD view and scroll to the right until you see a column that explains why the dataset statistics were incomplete. The WBVTOCD view will list all the datasets in the scan. Scrolling to the right, you will eventually see columns for the return code (RET Code), reason code (RSN Code) , and Error Message. Check the error message in the Error Message column to the right of the RSN Code column, and that should explain the reason for the incomplete dataset statistics

    One common reason for this message is:

    "NO YR XXXX IN SMCALS".
    where 'XXXX' is the year (2016, 2015, 2014 etc).

    If you receive this message, you should add the following rules to your active SMCALSxx parameter member, then ensure that you refresh the member: Please amend depending on different days for holidays observed at your site.
    Example:
    SET      YEAR=201*
             SAT=F              /* WEEKENDS OFF */
             SUN=F              /* WEEKENDS OFF */
             FREE=01.03         /* NEW YEAR'S DAY */
             FREE=04.07         /* FOURTH OF JULY */
             FREE=24.11         /* THANKSGIVING */
             FREE=25.11         /* THANKSGIVING */
             FREE=26.12         /* CHRISTMAS */
             FREE=27.12         /* CHRISTMAS */

    These rules tell DFHSM that the indicated dates are not considered work days and should not be considered when deciding whether to migrate a dataset based on last referenced date.
    You should add an entry for every year that has datasets created in the WBVTOCD.

    For further details, please see the chapter "Defining a Calendar" in the MainView SRM User Guide.
