    PRODUCT:

    MainView Infrastructure

    COMPONENT:

    MainView Alternate Access

    APPLIES TO:

    MainView Alternate Access

    PROBLEM:

Receiving the following message when attempting to start the MainView alternate Access BBVTAS (Terminal Address Space):
BBVT123E Cannot start TAS without a UCB or TERMID or possibly AO has intercepted the START command

    SOLUTION:

The Terminal Address Space (BBVTAS) has to be started via the Logon Address Space (BBVLAS) when the user logons to VTAM APPLID BBVTAS. If you are trying to start the BBVTAS via an MVS START command, you will encounter the BBVT123E message.

This error can also occur when the BBVLAS STC is not active. Further information about starting the Logon Address Space can be found in the section 'Starting and stopping the logon address space (LAS)' in the MainView Alternate Access Implementation and User Guide.

It is also recommended to check the PARMLIB MEMBER BBVTAS00 according to the error message:

BBVT123E Cannot start TAS without a UCB or TERMID or possibly AO has intercepted the START command

REASON: A TAS was started for either a VTAM or EXCP session by issuing a START command, but, during initialization, the TAS could not locate a terminal ID (LU name) value for a VTAM session or a UCB value for an EXCP session.

SYSTEM ACTION: TAS initialization fails and the session is not started.

USER ACTION: Check the START command string to verify that it contains a UCB( ) parameter for an EXCP session start or a TERMID( ) parameter for a VTAM session start, or that the value defined to either of these parameters is valid. Re-issue the START command with this parameter.

If the START command points to a BBVTASxx member, check this parmlib member to ensure that it contains a UCB( ) or TERMID( ) parameter and that the value defined to either of these parameters is valid. Correct the parmlib member and restart the TAS.

The Terminal Address Space started task will be automatically started when the user logs in via VTAM so should never be started manually.

If problems remain, please check the "BBVINIT" member where the MainView Clist to be executed is specified. In the MainView Clist, make sure that the correct BBLINK library is allocated to the BBILINK and BBILOAD DD's as follows:

    1. Check the Logon Address space (LAS) started task JCL.
    2. In LAS proc JCL, locate //BBVPARM DD.
In the concatenated dataset to BBVPARM DD, locate the BBVINIT member.
    3. In BBVINIT member, do a find on 'ISPSTART'.
Make sure that the correct MainView Clist library and clist member are specified there.

IF MENU = "MV" | MENU = "MAINVIEW" THEN DO
"ISPSTART CMD(EX 'mainview_clist dataset member' '"AUTOLOG"')"
    EXIT
    END
Browse the MainView Clist set in ISPSTART CMD above. Then, do a find on 'BBILINK'. Make sure that the correct BBLINK library is concatenated.

    4. Look at MMVTAS and MMVLAS PROC JCLs as well and ensure that the correct BBLINK library is concatenated to //STEPLIB DD.
Check the MainView Clist set in the BBVINIT member and also the concatenated BBLINK library in the TAS and LAS procs. Then try to log in via VTAM (LOGON APPLID()) again.
