Remedy Smart Reporting - How To Reset Default Admin User "siadmin" Password To Fix The Error "You have exceeded the number of allowed login attempts."?

    PROBLEM:

    The default password for 'siadmin' user has been changed and isn't recorded. After multiple attempts it gives the error "You have exceeded the number of allowed login attempts."

     


    CAUSE:

    Password has been locked due to multiple incorrect login attempts.


    SOLUTION:

    Please follow below steps to reset default Admin user "siadmin" password.

    1. If Smart Reporting is deployed with Bundled Tomcat

       
    •     Go to C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\SmartReporting\development\examples
    •  
    •     Copy ResetAdmin.jsp and paste it in C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\SmartReporting\appserver\webapps\ROOT
    •  
    •     Open Web.xml file available at C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\SmartReporting\appserver\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF location.
    •  
    •     Search for CSRF under csrf filter look for ignore
    •  
    •     Make the below changes and save the file
      
    <param-name>Ignore</param-name>          <param-value>/info.jsp,/info_threads.jsp,/ResetAdmin.jsp</param-value>
      
       
    •     Restart the Tomcat
    •  
    •     Open the http://<server name>:<port number>/ResetAdmin.jsp URL in browser
    •  
    •     Change the password back to 'siadmin'
    •  
    •     Remove the entry made in web.xml and delete the ResetAdmin.jsp file from ROOT.
       2. If Smart Reporting is deployed with external Tomcat  
       
    •     Copy attached ResetAdmin.jsp file at location <Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 9.0\webapps\SmartReporting >
    •  
    •     Open Web.xml file present at <Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 9.0\webapps\SmartReporting\WEB-INF >
    •  
    •     Search for CSRF under csrf filter look for ignore
    •  
    •     Make the below changes and save the file
      
    <param-name>Ignore</param-name>          <param-value>/info.jsp,/info_threads.jsp,/ResetAdmin.jsp</param-value>
      
       
    •     Restart the Tomcat
    •  
    •     Open the http://<server name>:<port number>/SmartReporting/ResetAdmin.jsp
    •  
    •     Change the password back to 'siadmin'
    •  
    •     Remove the entry made in web.xml and delete the ResetAdmin.jsp file
       Note:  
       
    • You may get an error upon changing the password. Proceed to http:<hostname>:<port> of your SR server, login with 'siadmin' with the new password to complete the password reset process.
    •  
    • The above changes are risky and unsecured. Revert the changes as soon as the password gets reset for 'siadmin'.
