    CAUSE:

    Improperly edited pluginsrv_config.xml

    SOLUTION:

    Check the pluginsvr_config.xml per the line referenced in the error stack

    Caused by: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException; systemId: file:/E:/Remedy/pluginsvr/pluginsvr_config.xml; lineNumber: 647; columnNumber: 18; The string "--" is not permitted within comments.

    Open the pluginsvr_config.xml and locate the line and columnNumber as specified and correct the errors.

    In this specific case a customer had wanted to comment out the ARSYS.AREA.AREALDAP plugin from the pluginsrv_config.xml file. The plugin was incorrectly commented out as follows:

    <!--
    <plugin>
                      <name>ARSYS.AREA.AREALDAP</name>
                      <pathelement type="location">C:/Program Files/BMC Software/ARSystem81/pluginsvr/arealdapplugin81_build001.jar</pathelement>
                      <classname>com.bmc.arsys.plugins.arealdap.AREALdapPlugin</classname>
                </plugin>--->

    Corrected, should be as follows:

    <!--
             <plugin>
                      <name>ARSYS.AREA.AREALDAP</name>
                      <pathelement type="location">C:/Program Files/BMC Software/ARSystem81/pluginsvr/arealdapplugin81_build001.jar</pathelement>
                      <classname>com.bmc.arsys.plugins.arealdap.AREALdapPlugin</classname>
                </plugin>
    -->

    It should be noted that in 9.1 and above, we do not recommend manually updating this file. The correct method will be to use the Plugin Server Configuration form. See the Configuring the Java plug-in server on our BMC docs page.
