Atrium CMDB Upgrade from 7.6.04 to 9.1 failed.

    PROBLEM:

    Error during an upgrade from AtriumCore version 7.6.04 to 9.1: 

    "You cannot install or upgrade BMC Atrium CMDB because the installer has detected that a previous installation failed or is currently running."

    Due to this error pre-check was failing and installer did not move ahead.

    This FAILED status was intentionally added into Application Properties because BMC Software would rather have customer investigate and the error that caused the failure rather than reinstalling over and over. 
    Reinstalling AtriumCore causes more harm then good. This is why we've added this "blocker". 
    I am assuming you're reading this because you're in that situation, so let me explain why we did this. 

    1. If you restart the installer for AtriumCore then we've lost the original root cause for the failure because logs get lost. 
    2. Valid backups get lost. 
    3. With the 9.1.04 ZDT (Zero Down Time) feature, you're going to trigger AR Server restore as well. 

    Before you read the Solution section of this KA, you should collect all logs and perhaps even create a High Severity case with our support team so that we can identify the root cause and fix it before any other attempts to upgrade are done. On the other hand, if you've already identified the root cause and fixed what ever was causing the failure then please continue to the Solution section. 
     


    CAUSE:

    Records in share:application properties form with ApplicationId = OB00C04FA081BABZlxQAmyflAg1wEA associated with Failed value.


    SOLUTION:


     Open SHARE:Application_Properties form and search for ApplicationId "OB00C04FA081BABZlxQAmyflAg1wEA"
    You should find one with value as "Failed" in one of the records. Delete the record with Failed in the value. 

    2. Go to %ATRIUMCORE_HOME% folder and open AtriumCoreInstalledConfig.xml. If any entries are found in FAILED FEATURES tag then delete the contents of the value. For example "featureCDMB" < remove just that. 
    Save the file. 

    Start installer again.
