    PRODUCT:

    Remedy AR System Server

    COMPONENT:

    AR System

    APPLIES TO:

    Remedy AR System Developer Studio v9.x

    DETAILS:

    Scenario:
    If Developer Studio (any 9.x versions) fails to create a .xml file when generating a snapshot, additional information will be required to check the root cause. For this we enable snapshot logging.

    Steps:
    a) Open DevStudio.ini file (Located in the DevStudio's installation directory) and append:
    "-Dlog4j.configuration=file:{path to DevStudio install dir}\BMC Software\ARSystem\DeveloperStudio\log4j.properties"
    at the bottom of the file.

    Example:
    ..........
    -vm
    C:/Program Files/Java/jre1.8.0_71/bin/javaw.exe
    -startup
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.3.100.v20150511-1540.jar
    --launcher.library
    plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_64_1.1.300.v20150602-1417
    -vmargs
    -Xms512m
    -Xmx2048m
    -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=128m
    -Dlog4j.configuration=file:C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\DeveloperStudio\log4j.properties

    ..........

    b) Then create new file under {DevStudio installdir}\BMC Software\ARSystem\DeveloperStudio\
    with the name: log4j.properties

    c) Append into this file the following:
    # Root logger option
    #log4j.rootLogger=TRACE, file

    # Direct log messages to stdout
    #log4j.appender.stdout=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
    #log4j.appender.stdout.target=System.out
    #log4j.appender.stdout.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    #log4j.appender.stdout.layout.conversionPattern=%d{ABSOLUTE} %5p %t %c{1}:%M:%L - %m%n

    # Direct log messages to a log file
    log4j.appender.file=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender
    log4j.appender.file.file=snapshot.log
    log4j.appender.file.MaxFileSize=10MB
    log4j.appender.file.MaxBackupIndex=1
    log4j.appender.file.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
    log4j.appender.file.layout.conversionPattern=%d{ABSOLUTE} %5p %t %c{1}:%M:%L - %m%n
    log4j.logger.com.bmc.arsys.studio.reconciliation.core.ReconciliationService = TRACE, file
    com.bmc.arsys.studio.model.level = INFO

    d) Save the file.

    e) Then generate a snapshot from DevStudio.
    A log file called: snapshot.log will be generated under {DevStudio install dir}\BMC Software\ARSystem\DeveloperStudio\

    Attached to this article there is an example of the files:
