    QUESTION:

While discovering Solaris Servers, Hardware Vendor (Manufacturer) information is collected for Global zone servers but is not discovered for local (Non Global) Zone Servers Why ?
    OR
Does ADDM retrieve model and manufacturer for Solaris global and local zones ?

    ANSWER:

The assumptions here are that "local zone" = "non-global zone" and "Manufacturer" = "Hardware Vendor". Discovery will return a value for Hardware Vendor for the global zone, but not for non-global zones. This is  because Manufacturer information is obtained from the command "prtdiag" which can't be run inside a non-global zone.

Defect DRUD1-16735 was submitted to improve Manufacturer discovery for non-global zone servers.  A fix is included in Discovery 11.2.

Discovery will attempt to get the model for both global and non-global zones. For non-global zones, Discovery uses the "uname" command. Examples include "Sun Fire 280R" (SPARC) and the generic "i86pc" (for a non-global zone running in VMWare on x86 hardware).
