    A need arises to copy a (custom) report design from one product installation (for instance from the TEST environment) to another product installation (for example the PROD environment). The build-time version of the report design file is no longer available, however.

    This solution assumes, that the "BMTM Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers", short "Report Designer", is already installed on a client PC. If it is not, please do so first. The installation instructions for the Report Designer can be found in the "Operations User Guide" (operations.pdf).

    At a high level, the process for copying a report design from one product installation to another is this:

    1.) Import the report design from the source product installation into the Report Designer.
    2.) Publish the report design from the Report Designer to the target product installation.

    The steps for importing the report design file into the Report Designer are:

    1a) Open the Report Designer
    1b) In the "Navigator" pane, create a new project
    1ba) right-click into the "Navigator" pane and select "New" from the popup menu
    1bb) Select "Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools"/"Report Project"
    1bc) Click Next
    1bd) Enter a name for the new project
    1be) Click "Finish"
    1c) Right-click on the newly created project folder and select "Import" from the popup menu
    1d) Select "Report Design"/"BMTM Report Design"
    1e) Click "Next"
    1f) Enter the credentials and the host name/IP address for the source system
    1g) Click "Connect"
    1h) Click "Next"
    1i) Select the report design you want to import into the Report Designer and make sure that the new project folder is highlighted.
    1j) Click "Finish"

    The report design file should now be accessible from the new project folder.

    The steps for publishing the report design to the target server are:

    2a) Expand the new project folder so the report design file is visible underneath
    2b) Right-click on the report design file and choose "Publish Report Design to BMTM" from the popup menu
    2c) Enter the credentials and the host name/IP address for the target system
    2d) Click "Connect"
    2e) Click "Next"
    2f) Click "Finish"

    The report design should now be ready to use on the target system.
