    QUESTION:

    MainView for DB2 10.1.00
    MainView for DB2 11.1.00

All the MainView for DB2 Traces started are in Quiesced status and message TDIR QUIESCED issued on HT view. Why?

The BBI-SS PAS is properly connected to DB2.

The following messages issued at BBI-SS PAS startup indicate that the Trace Directory file is defined in BBIISP00 member correctly.

        STC56789 CS1042I TRDIR=&HLQSYSDP..BBE.TRCEDIR
        STC56789 CS1043I <>TRDIR=BMCMV.BBE.TRCEDIR

        STC56789 CS1044I --- CSPARM completed processing of BBIISP00 for ISPARM ---

    - the CT view shows a Trace in QIS status
    - when Showing (W) the trace, the 'DB2 TRACE REQUEST panel' shows message 'TDIR QUIESCED'
    - the HT view shows TRDIR: BMCMV.BBE.TRCEDIR with message 'TDIR QUIESCED' but no other trace displayed

    The BBI Journal shows:

         15.016   12:34:56 BBSD     TL1011E  UNABLE TO START TDIR BMCMV.BBE.TRCEDIR                            -
         15.016   12:34:56 BBSD      DATASET EMPTY

         15.016   12:34:56          DSNW130I  :BBD2 MON TRACE STARTED, ASSIGNED TRACE NUMBER 03

         15.016   12:34:56 BBSD     DZ3002I  BBD2 TRACE(MON) STARTED DEST(OP1 ).
         15.016   12:34:56 BBSD     DZ3001I  BBD1 -STA TRA(MON) DEST RC=00000000 RSN=00000000 U=BBSD
         15.016   12:34:56          DSNW130I  :BBD1 MON TRACE STARTED, ASSIGNED TRACE NUMBER 03
         15.016   12:34:56          DSN9022I  :BBD1 DSNWVCM1 '-STA TRA' NORMAL COMPLETION

    What can I do?

    ANSWER:

    Legacy ID:KA419430

The 'TDIR QUIESCED' message displayed in the HT view indicates a problem with the Trace Directory dataset. It is associated with the TLnnnnx messages seen in the BBI Journal.

Please note the TL1011E message which displays one of the following reasons:

"ALREADY HAVE ONE IN USE" - already has a TDIR in use
"ALLOCATION FAILURE" - unable to allocate TDIR
"IDENTIFY FAILURE" - Data-In-Virtual interface failure
"ACCESS FAILURE" - Data-In-Virtual interface failure
"DATASET EMPTY" - TDIR is empty (JXT001 has not be run yet)
"GET WINDOW FAILURE" - cannot get storage to build I/O windows
"MAP WINDOW FAILURE" - error trying to read TDIR
"NOT TDIR DATASET" - the dataset is not a Trace DIRectory
"TDIR DATA ERROR" - inconsistent data in the TDIR
"INCOMPATIBLE VERSION" - TDIR is of different version that is not not supported by the current release of BBQ/TL.

In this case, the explanation is given by the following messages issued in the BBI Journal:

         15.016   12:34:56 BBSD     TL1011E  UNABLE TO START TDIR BMCMV.BBE.TRCEDIR                            -
         15.016   12:34:56 BBSD      DATASET EMPTY

The reason associated to TL1011E message indicates 'DATASET EMPTY'. This means that the trace directory dataset was created but has not been initialized.  Please run .BBSAMP(JXT001) - STEP2 - to initialized the trace directory.

Another reason could be due to a mismatch between the TRDIR dataset name initialized by JXT001 member in BBSAMP library, and the one specified in BBIISPnn member.

Please note that the Trace Directory cannot be shared by several BBI-SS PASes. If the BBIISPxx member is shared, you will need to specify one TRDIR dataset for each BBI-SS. Here is an example:

        TRDIR=SYS2.MVTEST.DB2.TRACEDIR,SUBSYS=BBD1
        TRDIR=SYS2.MVTEST.CICS.TRACEDIR,SUBSYS=BBC1
