There are currently two distinct products that are branded BMC Application Release Automation:

    1.       BMC Application Release Automation – Middleware
This is a stand-alone product (formerly known as Phurnace Deliver) that allows rapid and confident automated deployment of Java EE applications and configurations. This product has also been branded in the past as BMC Application Release Automation - Standard and BMC Application Release Automation - Standard for WebSphere Business Applications.

    2.       BMC Application Release Automation
This product provides the foundational BMC Server Automation technology allowing automated application and configuration changes to be managed, controlled and enforced by BMC Software’s policy-based automation solution for the data center.

In previous branding iterations, BMC Application Release Automation (#2 above) was also called BMC BladeLogic Application Release Automation – Enterprise Edition and BMC BladeLogic Application Release Management.

    Forthcoming changes in product branding

Starting with the 8.2 release, the branding of the both BMC BladeLogic Application Release Automation and BMC BladeLogic Application Release Automation -- Middleware will be changed as follows.

BMC BladeLogic Application Release Automation -- Middleware will become BMC Middleware Automation

BMC BladeLogic Application Release Automation will become BMC Application Automation

    Middleware support in each product

The BMC Application Release Automation  – Middleware 8.1.0 product supports WebSphere Application Server (5.1, 6.0, 6.1 and 7.0), WebLogic Server (8.1, 9.2/10.0, 10.3/11g), Tomcat 6.0, Geronimo 2.2, WebSphere Portal (6.0 and 6.1)  and JBoss (4.2, 4.3). The JBoss support is being substantially re-architected and enhanced (including support for JBoss 4.2, 4.3 and 5) for the ARA-M 8.2 release due in the second half of 2011.

The BMC Application Release Automation 8.1.0 product currently supports a subset of the middleware platforms supported by the stand-alone product, including WebSphere Application Server (6.0 and 6.1) and WebLogic Application Server (8.1, 9.2/10.0, 10.3/11g). The product roadmap calls for the integrated product and stand-alone product to support all of the same middleware platforms.
