    QUESTION:

How to restore all the cell selector and policy data?

    ANSWER:

    Legacy ID:KA314276

    01. Why is cell information such as policy and tables stored in the %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log folder?

    > All the cell information (mcdb, xact; smdb ..) is stored in the log directory.

    > All selectors and policy data is stored in the mcdb.

    > All the trace information is stored in tmp directory

    > The cell KB is kept in the etc directory.

    02. How can I restore selector and policy data ?

    > If you've a previous backup of the BEM and SIM cells you can restore the selectors and policy data.

    > If you don't have a backup of the BEM and SIM cells you will have to manually re-create the selectors and policy data.

    03. May I use an older backup of the above %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log  folder ?

    > Yes

      1) stop the BEM cell.

      2) Make sure the Statbld has completely stopped for this cell.

      3) Navigate to %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log\<BEM_Cellname>

      4) Export all the data and policies from one cell.

      mquery -n <BEM_Cellname> -q -d -f BAROC > /tmp/BEM_Cellname_current.export

keep this file on a safe place.

      5) Completely backup the %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log\<BEM_Cellname>\*.*

      6) Restore the log\<BEM_Cellname>\*.* to a another folder.

      7) Remove all files in %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log\<BEM_Cellname> directory

      8) Copy the restored log\<BEM_Cellname>\*.* to %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log\<BEM_Cellname>\

      9) Navigate to %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log\<BEM_Cellname>

      10) Export all the data and policies from one cell.

      mquery -n <BEM_Cellname> -q -d -f BAROC > E:\tmp\BEM_Cellname_backup.export

keep this file on a safe place.

     11) Now we need to compare both BEM_Cellname_current.export and BEM_Cellname_backup.export

     12) Create a third BAROC (BEM_Cellname_final.baroc) file and copy all the missing policies and selectors.

Keep this file in a safe place since this is the one we are going to use.

      13)  Navigate to %IMPACT_SOLUTIONS_HOME%\server\log\<BEM_Cellname>

      14) Remove all files inside this directory

      15) Put back what was there before. ( from step 5 )

      16) start the cell

Open a Dos Prompt Window :

      mcell -n <BEM_Cellname>

     17) Import all the data and policies from one cell.

           mposter -n <BEM_Cellname> -d  E:\tmp\BEM_Cellname_final.baroc

     18) Open Impact Explorer (IX) and check in the cell data; for policies and selectors.
