TrueSight App Visibility Agent
How a new App Visibility Agents for Java and App Visibility Agents for .NET version 10.0.00 or 10.1.00 determines which tier it is assigned?
For example, a user installed 10 new App Visibility Agents for .NET 10.1.00. 5 of the 10 of those agents were assigned the Business tier while the other 5 agents were assigned the Web tier. However, all 10 agents performs the same function.
The tier is set automatically and dynamically to each application server, based on the type of transactions it is serving. As a note, the installation process has nothing to do with the application server tier.
The tier (web\business) is set as follows:
1. Each application server starts as 'business'.
2. Every 5 minutes, agent send transaction metrics for each application sever.
3. The portal then calculate the ratio of top level transactions compared to downstream transaction for each application server.
4. For each application server, if the ratio of top level transaction compared to downstream transactions is greater than 90% (can be configured in portal.properties, application.model.top.level.threshold), set its tier to 'web' for the next 24 hours (can be configured in portal.proprties, application.model.retention.time.hours). If this application server tier is already set to web, extend it to another 24 hours.
The assignment of an application server as a Web or Business tier depends how the App Visibility agent recognizes most of the transactions on the server. Please see the following link for additional information:
