    QUESTION:

How do I automatically receive MainView Alerts into MainView AutoOPERATOR?

    ANSWER:

There are two ways of getting the MainView Alerts to AutoOPERATOR.

    1) The ALRTRCVE parameter in the BBISSP00 parmlib member can be set to YES. This means that the AutoOPERATOR Product Address Space (PAS) will automatically receive alerts created in other address spaces. ALRTRCVE does not automatically convert alarms to alerts. An alert is created for an alarm only if a rule is created to do so.

ALRTRCVE=NO         NO, YES   INDICATES TO OTHER BMC PRODUCTS SUCH AS
MVALARM, ADVANCED EARLY WARNING SYSTEM ETC.
THAT THIS SUBSYSTEM HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS
AN ALERT RECEIVER FOR ALERTS OR EXCEPTIONS
GENERATED BY THESE PRODUCTS. NORMALLY ONLY ONE
SUBSYSTEM IN EACH MVS IS MARKED IN THIS FASHION.
NOTE: THE ALERT RECEIVER RECEIVES ALERTS FROM
PRODUCTS ON THE SAME MVS ONLY.

    2) Alternatively, it is possible to set up rules for Alarms that are being created in MainView Alarm Manager that will turn them into Alerts in AutoOPERATOR. There are rules available in ruleset AAORUL00 that are distributed with the product that can be enabled. These will send all Alarms to AutoOPERATOR or can be modified for only specific Alarms to be sent.

The method used really depends on individual user requirements. If the user is trying to automate the issuing of a command or to schedule an EXEC then ALRTRCVE=YES may be the best method. If the user does not want to keep a copy of all the Alerts in AutoOPERATOR, it would be possible to write an ALRT Rule and use DISP AT DEST=NO so that they do not get displayed on the AutoOPERATOR detail screen.
