    QUESTION:

This Knowledge Article describes the SNAP_LEVEL keyword, which was introduced in version 4.00.00.20 of the Fast Path/EP Series products.  This optional keyword can be specified for any command with which the POINTER_VALIDATION keyword is valid.

    ANSWER:

If an error, including (but not limited to) those identified by the message codes listed below, is detected for an area,  the value specified (or defaulted to) for the SNAP_LEVEL keyword determines whether or not corresponding blocks are snapped and thus their contents are available in the corresponding job step output.

There are four valid values for the SNAP_LEVEL keyword as described below.

SNAP_LEVEL=NONE results in no blocks being snapped when errors are detected.

SNAP_LEVEL=CRITICAL results in a snap of all blocks in which errors deemed CRITICAL are detected ("C" level messages).  This is the default value for the SNAP_LEVEL keyword.

SNAP_LEVEL=ERROR results in a snap of all blocks in which ERROR or CRITICAL level errors are detected ("C" or "E" level messages).

SNAP_LEVEL=WARNING results in a snap of all blocks in which WARNING, ERROR, or CRITICAL level errors are detected ("C" or "E" or "W" level messages).

If an error is detected for a block that was previously snapped, message BMC110000I is generated.  This message indicates that the block was previously snapped and the associated snap dump has been suppressed.
