    QUESTION:

How do I view MainView for DB2 trace data from an archive trace data set in the History Traces view?

    ANSWER:

An archive trace data set (backup) is created by the DZTBVUNL utility (Sample JCL to archive a MainView for DB2 Trace Log Dataset (TLDS) can be found in the member DZTBARC in the hlq.BBSAMP library).
The archived dataset can be restored to a MainView for DB2 TLDS (VSAM format) by using the DZTBVLOD utility (Sample JCL to restore a MainView for DB2 archived trace data set can be found in member DZTBRLOD in the  hlq.BBSAMP library).

After restoring the file to a TLDS (VSAM cluster), the new TLDS can be added to MainView for DB2 by following the steps below:

    1) From the EZDB2 menu, select "Current Traces".

    2) From the Current Traces (VT) view, select "HT" (History Traces)

    Current Traces

    3) Issue the NEW line command in the History Traces panel.

    History Traces

    4) Specify the trace data set name in the field 'Log Data Set Name'  in the Create Trace Directory Entries panel:

    Create Trace

After the above steps have been completed the trace data can be accessed online via the History Traces view.
