    QUESTION:

    BMC Software's License Operations Office routinely sends letters requesting information about licensing.

    Respectively, reports for three types of customers can be generated.  For each type of customer select the reports for either task-based or tier-based licensing.

    1. For Distributed Systems and mainframe Customers using Control-M/Enterprise Manager with the Reporting Facility installed.
    2. For Distributed Systems Customer who do not have the Control-M/Enterprise Manager with the Reporting Facility at their disposal.
    3. For Mainframe Customers who do not have the Control-M/Enterprise Manager with the Reporting Facility at their disposal.

    ANSWER:

    Legacy ID:KA376498

    1. For Distributed Systems and Mainframe Customers using Control-M/Enterprise Manager with the Reporting Facility installed.

    Task-Based:

    1.1 Workload Distribution Report

    The following can help with counting Tasks using the Control-M Reporting Facility within Control-M Enterprise Manager V6.4 FP6 or higher. If you are running 6.3 please refer to Control-M Report Utility.
    This is a basic introduction to Control-M Task Counting and should be used as a simplistic guide. This Quick Guide does not replace, update or add to any contractual documentation. With this tool, Task count information can “only” be provided for Control-M Server and Mainframe environments that have been connected to a single Control-M/Enterprise Manager for the full reporting period.

    The following procedure should be run on every Enterprise Manager environment separately (PROD1, PROD2, DEV1, DEV2, DEV3, UAT...):

    1. Open the Control-M Reporting Facility (using your desktop icon, the right icon from the “Control-M/GUI” or “Control-M/Desktop” or from the windows “start” menu)
    2. Create a new report using the “Workload Distribution” template.
    3. On the “Filters” section, please choose the last 365 days period in the Time Frame section, and also choose the “Minimal” option in the Display section (see the below screenshot).
    4. Click Finish.
    5. Choose the “File” -> “Export” to export the report output to Excel format.

    Output should look like screen shot below…

    1.2 Extreme Peaks Usage Report (Tasks)

    The following procedure should be run on every Enterprise Manager environment separately.

    From within the Control-M Reporting facility use the Report Wizard to create a new report using the “Extreme Peaks Usage” template for the Maximum of the previous 365 days. For simplicity, uncheck the three boxes under “Display Sections” (example report shown below).

    Tier-Based:

    2f Export or print the report:
    To export, select File -> Export and type the file name then choose PDF, XLS or other output format.

    Virtual Machines are counted individually by the Control-M/Agent and not as the underlying hardware where the Control-M/Agent runs. For example, If you configured a certain VM to map onto 1 CPU and 2 cores it will report 2 (1*2).

    2. For Distributed Systems Customer who do not have the Control-M/Enterprise Manager with the Reporting Facility.

    TASK-BASED:

    Extreme Peaks Usage Report

    Run the SQL query for your specific database type :

    (Use root_menu -> Database Troubleshooting -> Interactive SQL Utility   or contact your DBA if you are not comfortable running SQL queries)

    2.1 This report will print the maximum jobs for all datacenters for a given platform for every day in last 365 days.
    PostgreSQL
    select sum(jobs), net_date from net_report group by net_date order by sum(jobs) desc limit 3;

    Oracle
    select sum(jobs), net_date from net_report where rownum<=3 group by net_date order by sum(jobs) desc;

    MS SQL & Sybase
    select top 3 sum(jobs), net_date from net_report group by net_date order by sum(jobs) desc;
    go

    Workload Distribution Report

    2.2 This report prints every record. It shows count for every day and for every datacenter.
    PostgreSQL, Oracle
    SELECT DATA_CENTER, PLATFORM, CONTROL_M_VER, CTM_HOST_NAME, NET_NAME, NET_DATE_IDX, NET_DATE, CREATE_TIME, JOBS, SCHED_GROUPS, EXECUTIONS
    FROM NET_REPORT ORDER BY JOBS, NET_DATE DESC;

    MS SQL, Sybase
    SELECT DATA_CENTER, PLATFORM, CONTROL_M_VER, CTM_HOST_NAME, NET_NAME, NET_DATE_IDX, NET_DATE, CREATE_TIME, JOBS, SCHED_GROUPS, EXECUTIONS
    FROM NET_REPORT ORDER BY JOBS, NET_DATE DESC
    GO

    2.3 This report shows the max job count for each datacenter with platform. No date can be added.
    SELECT DATA_CENTER, MAX(JOBS), PLATFORM FROM NET_REPORT GROUP BY DATA_CENTER, PLATFORM;

    TIER-BASED:

    2.1 This report will print the machine information for host in the environment.
    SELECT HOSTNAME, NUM_CPU, CPU_ARCH, OS_TYPE, NUM_SOCKETS FROM MNG_SERVERS;

    2.2 Please provide a written statement of the highest number of EM Client users in the last 365 days.

    3. For Mainframe Customers who do not have the Control-M/Enterprise Manager with the Reporting Facility.

    TASK-BASED:

    To collect the job counts for the mainframe you must have APAR BM10809 applied.  Submit the job in the %%ILPREFA. JCL pds member CTMJNM and send the output to BMC.

    NOTES
    The following rules are used for establishing the job count. This information will be kept in the CTM STAT file.

    1. Count all jobs that reside in the AJF for a specific date - both jobs that were left from previous day and jobs ordered during the day.
    2. SMART table entries (group elements) should not be counted.
    3. Jobs with TZ should be counted only if the current date is between their ODATE and ODATE+MAXWAIT (if they are pre-ordered or kept a day after their MAXWAIT expired, they should not be counted for those days).
    4. Jobs that are deleted during the day (Space Re-Use) should be counted.
    5. The stat file will keep per day jobs counts for the last 10 years.  The start and end dates of the 10 year period are updated automatically according to the current date detected by the monitor.
