What is Digital workplace Progressive Web App & FAQ

1)What is Digital workplace Progressive Web App and how to Use It?

BMC Digital Workplace progressive web app (PWA) provides a dynamic “app-like” experience on users’ device browser or desktop.  The new UI is designed based on the Progressive Web App (PWA) that supports all clients from desktop to mobile devices.  With this release, the native iOS and Android mobile clients are now deprecated, and are not packaged with 19.02+ releases.  The new PWA replaces the native apps to simplify the mobile apps distribution. All features and customization are seamlessly made available on compatible desktop and mobile devices.

iOS Device - Progressive Web App and Standard BMC DWP App
Before Progressive Web App was made available for 19.02, DWP was shipped with native app that we had to resign using their Apple Enterprise Credentials for Enterprise Distribution or AppStore Distribution.  With the release of 19.02, DWP provides a new responsive UI where resigning of the app is no longer required to use the application.

Steps for using PWA on iOS device:

    1. Open a web browser on your device
    2.
    3. Enter the DWP URL for 19.02+ server
    4.
    5. Add the application launcher to your device home screen (optional step)
    6.
    7. Load the DWP app in your browser and sign in
    8.
    9. Use the app
Note: To allow customers to transition from 18.08 app to 19.02, customers can continue to use resigned version 18.08 of the native mobile clients.  Users can connect to their 19.02 app from an 18.08 resigned app if need be.

2)Can we use Push Notification in Progressive Web App?
We cannot use Push Notifications from Progressive Web App.

3)What I need to do to use Push Notification?
If we need push notifications and QR code scan features, we need to use the standard app provided by BMC by downloading the app from the Apple App Store.

Steps for downloading the BMC Standard Digital workplace mobile app as follows:

    1. Go to AppStore and download the “BMC Helix – Digital Workplace”
    2.
    3. Download and Install the App
    4.
    5. Enter the DWP Server host name (without the https and leave port as blank) -> connect to the server
    6.
    7. Use standard app
Note that 19.02+ standard app can’t be used to connect to earlier DWP servers.

4)Can I resign Progressive web app?
No, we cannot resign the Progressive web app.

5)Can I rebrand the Progressive web app?
Yes, If you login to Digital workplace admin console and use the rebranding. It will rebrand the UC as well as Progressive web app.  The only thing we cannot change is  app icon for iOS.

6)Is there a need to resign the App which we download from Apple App Store?
No, there is no need to resign the app with your organization certificate. BMC has already resigned the app for you, when you  download the app from Apple app store.

7)How do we rebrand the app from app store?
The iOS app is the webapp wrapped into it, in-order to rebrand it, you can simply go to DWP admin console and do the rebranding. The only thing we cannot change is  app icon for iOS.

8)Is there a xarchive file of the Digital workplace so we can resign or rebrand?
No, there is no xarchive file available from 19.02+ release.

9)Please ignore the dwp-wrapper.ipa and dwp-wrapper.xcarchive.zip file from below location on Digital workplace 20.02 version
