    BMC Discovery 11.3

    APPLIES TO:

    BMC Discovery

    PROBLEM:

Scan fails with Skipped (Device is an unsupported device), however a credential test is successful.

    SOLUTION:

Use Case 1: This could occur if the port state discovered during the initial nmap scan is "filtered". By default the "Valid Port States" are "open, open|filtered", so if the desired port is "filtered" the scan will fail.

In the UI, see Administration > Discovery Configuration > Valid Port States. While it is possible to change the "Valid Port States" to include "filtered", this could cause unexpected results for other devices.

The best solution is to determine why the desired port is "filtered" for this device.

Use case 2: The Session Result List shows a status of "No Data" for the appropriate credential. Testing shows that Discovery can ping the device and port 161 is open. An snmpGet and snmpwalk complete but cannot show/fetch any data.

The root cause is insufficient permissions to correctly scan the device. The solution is to provide the appropriate access to the credential.
