    PRODUCT:

    APPTUNE for DB2

    COMPONENT:

    Next Generation Logger

    APPLIES TO:

Any supported version of Next Generation Logger (NGL)

    PROBLEM:

NGLARCH started task appears to hang.

    CAUSE:

DFSMShsm might be waiting on an HDELETE request.

    SOLUTION:

Verify that the NGLARCH started task completed the offload of the active log file, then check for purge processing messages.

NGLARCH performs two functions in this order:

      1. NGLARCH offloads an active log file to archive log file and registers the archive log datasetname in the NGL Registry. When the offload has completed, messages BMC24729 and BMCNGL59831I are issued:

                 BMC24729 ARCHIVE REGISTRATION COMPLETE FOR SYS3.BMC.APPTUNE.OG005.A0031295  (00F6)
                 BMCNGL59831I CONNECTION TO DBC(DC01) TERMINATED

      2. NGLARCH optionally then performs purge requests for archive log files that meet defined purge criteria. For the datasets that meet the criteria, NGLARCH deletes the archive log datasetname entry from the
NGL Registry and also deletes the physical archive log dataset. If the to-be-deleted archive file has been migrated by HSM,
NGLARCH issues an HDELETE command with WAIT=YES. The WAIT=YES will
cause the NGLARCH started task to wait indefinitely until HSM completes the deletion of the dataset. If HSM does not respond, NGLARCH will wait.
