    PRODUCT:

    DELTA PLUS

    APPLIES TO:

DELTA PLUS DB/DC, version 2.7.00 DELTA PLUS for DBCTL, version 2.7.00 DELTA PLUS VIRTUAL TERMINAL, version 2.7.00 BMC System Administration for IMS, version 2.8.00

    PROBLEM:

    Overview of the enhancement

DELTA PLUS now enables RELOAD DB requests without having to take the DEDB areas offline after extending the IOVF portion of the DEDB areas.

You can use this functionality only when all of the following conditions have been met:

    • You have used the BMC Fast Path Online Reorg/EP product to extend the IOVF portion of an area.
    •
    • You are using IMS managed application control blocks (ACBs).
    •
    • You have specified the IOVFEXT keyword with the RELOAD functionality. The IOVFEXT keyword must be the only keyword specified with the RELOAD function.

The following guidelines apply to using the new IOVF extension functionality:

    • When you use this functionality, DELTA PLUS does not rebuild any Fast Path control blocks that are associated with the DEDB.
    •
    • DELTA PLUS performs cross-checks to ensure that nothing has changed in the DMAC of the affected DMB in the staging directory other than the changes that Fast Path Online Reorg/EP makes to extend IOVF.
    •
    • DELTA PLUS does not perform a normal RELOAD of the database that has the changed control block structures. However, the product does copy the DMB from the staging directory to the active directory.
    •
    • Neither the DEDB nor any of its areas are taken offline, but you can use the IOVF extension functionality if the DEDB or any of its areas are offline.

    SOLUTION:

    Obtaining and using the enhancement

    PTF BQQ4765 enables the enhancement.

After applying the PTF, you can use the procedures in this section to:

    • Configure the product to use IOVF extensions
    •
    • Extend the IOVF portion of an area

Configuring DELTA PLUS to use the IOVF extension functionality

Use the following procedure to configure DELTA IMS to use the IOVF extension functionality:

    1. Apply PTF BQQ4183.
    2.
    3. If you use VIEW PROFILES, create a new profile or replace your customized DELTA PLUS VIEW PROFILE with the updated DEFAULT .
    4.
    5. Specify the IOVFEXT keyword as shown below.

Extending the IOVF portion of an area

Each time you need to extend the IOVF portion of an area (or areas), complete the following steps:

    1. Use Fast Path Reorg Online/EP to perform the IOVF extension.
    2.
    3. Make the appropriate DBD changes to reflect the IOVF change. These changes get reflected in the reports  printed when BMC Fast Path Online  Reorg/EP utility is executed.
    4.
    5. Complete the appropriate DBDGEN and ACBGEN procedures.
    6.
    7. Run the IMS Populate utility to add the new version of the DBD to the IBM IMS catalog. The utility creates a new DMB runtime object that gets saved in the IMS staging directory.
    8.
    9. Create a DELTA PLUS List by using the IOVFEXT keyword and follow the instructions in  Configuring DELTA PLUS to use the IOVF extension functionality .
    10.
