    QUESTION:

When we try to reload the CMRSOPT options in MainView for CICS (MVCICS) we get message FT590I RESET TABLE CMRSOPT cicsname - TIMED OUT

What could be the reason for this and how do we fix it?

    ANSWER:

During the reset of CMRSOPT, the extractor (if active) is deactivated and reactivated.

Module CMRRSTO handles the refresh of CMRSOPT. CMRRSTO will first check if the CICS extractor is on, and if it is it will issue QOFF to stop the extractor.
CMRRSTO then checks whether the QOFF has finished by checking the extractor ON/OFF flag in the SOPT every 5 seconds for 8 times.
If the extractor flag is NOT off during this check it will stop processing and issues message FT590I indicating a TIME OUT has occurred.
If the extractor flag IS off, it will reload CMRSOPT, issue FT590I message with the LINK date of the CMRSOPT, and then issue QON to restart the extractor.

CMRRSTO will never issue a QON to start the extractor without it first finding that the extractor is off.

If you look at the messages in the CICS job log and find that the QOFF and QON happened within a very short time, you should suspect that the QON has been entered by something other than CMRRSTO.

FT104I   MainView for CICS   MONITOR HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED     => end of QOFF
FT000I   CICS MONITOR WILL BE ACTIVATED FOR COLLECTION     => beginning of QON

CMRRSTO may be timing out because when it waited 5 seconds the first time to allow the QOFF to process, the extractor had been turned back on by automation, causing the extractor flag to be on. The extractor flag will not be off again, so CMRRSTO times out.

If the extractor is not being restarted with AutoOperator for CICS, it has to have been turned on with some automation that triggers on any of the following messages:

13:35:26  FT206I   PERFORMANCE CLASS RESET TO INACTIVE
13:35:26  FT206I   EXCEPTION CLASS RESET TO INACTIVE
13:35:26  FT206I   RESOURCE CLASS RESET TO INACTIVE
13:35:26  FT007I   CICS MONITOR RESET TO INACTIVE
    13:35:26  FT124I   P.S.B. NAME INTERCEPT ROUTINE REMOVED
    13:35:26  FT322I   COLLECTION FOR DB2      DEACTIVATED
13:35:26  FT104I   MainView for CICS   MONITOR HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED

Please check your automation rules to see if any of them issues QON to restart the extractor. This may be in conflict with the reset of CMRSOPT table.

    Other things to check:
    1) Is the PAS running at a higher dispatching priority than CICS?
