    PRODUCT:

    BMC AMI Defender for Db2

    COMPONENT:

    BMC AMI Defender for Db2

    APPLIES TO:

BMC AMI Defender for Db2 and BMC AMI Defender for z/OS, version 5.9.01

    DETAILS:

When downloading BMC AMI Defender for Db2 and BMC AMI Defender for z/OS products, a zipped product file with the same name and size is downloaded for both products. The files are named differently on EPD. That is confusing and appears to be an error. For example, a file with a name like this is downloaded for both products:

    'BMC-AMI-Defender-for-zOS-v5.9.01.2527-2528.zip', size = 10.6 MB

However, in EPD, the listed files are named like this in the product file lists:

    BMC AMI Defender for Db2:
Product Name: BMC AMI Defender Version 5.9.01 for Db2
    Platform: Microsoft Windows/NT
    File Type: zip
    Size: 11 MB

    BMC AMI Defender for Db2:
Product Name: BMC AMI Defender Version 5.9.01 for z/OS
    Platform: Microsoft Windows/NT
    File Type: zip
    Size: 11 MB

Summary / Resolution: Essentially, the products the same, and the differences lie in the license key and the parameter file configuration for the Db2 product. There is only one v5.9.01 physical packaging for both of the products. Product functionality is controlled by the license key.  For BMC AMI Defender for Db2, there would be a license key enabled for Db2 functionality, without other features enabled. This is intentional and quite correct. This is how Product Management wanted it originally, so they could sell the products separately. But to our Development team, they are both the same product. It is just a matter of the license key and parameter file configuration that enables the Db2 portion. If the customer installs either one, they get the same thing installed. Same libraries, etc. So, if the customer installs the Db2 package, they do not need to bother with the z/OS package.
