TS Synthetic - The Synthetic TEA Agent cannot be uninstalled and reinstalled with the same TEA Agent name on the same Windows server

    PROBLEM:

     

    Depending on the reason, the Synthetic TEA Agent needed to be reinstalled back onto the same Windows operating system with the same TEA Agent name.  However, reinstalling the Synthetic TEA Agent with the same TEA Agent name on the same Windows operating system, the following message appeared on the installation screen:

    Agent with the name "<TEA Agent name>" already exists. Enter a unique Agent name.

    The Next button was not available to continue with the installation, and the only options were either to click the Cancel or Previous button.

    Below are two options where the Synthetic TEA Agent can be reinstalled on the same Windows server using the same TEA Agent name:
     
    Option 1) Perform an over-the-top installation of the Synthetic TEA Agent (same version) and still use the same name

    Option 2) Uninstall the Synthetic TEA Agent (for example, 10.5.00) and reinstall the same Synthetic TEA Agent version (10.5.00) on the same computer and still use the same TEA Agent name

    How does one uninstall and reinstall Synthetic TEA Agent on the same Windows operating system using the same Synthetic TEA Agent name?

    As a note, the TrueSight Presentation Server (
    TSPS) console still see the original Synthetic TEA Agent.

     


    SOLUTION:

     

    Below are the steps to uninstall and reinstall the Synthetic TEA Agent back onto the same Windows operating system with the same TEA Agent name:

    Step 1) Uninstall the Synthetic TEA Agent on the Windows operating system

    Step 2) Log onto the TrueSight Presentation Server (TSPS) console and navigate to "App Visibility Agents" screen (Administration -> App Visibility Agents)

    Step 3) Click on the Synthetic TEA Agent action menu and delete the TEA Agent that was uninstalled in Step 1

    Step 4) Reinstall the Synthetic TEA Agent with the same Synthetic TEA Agent name on the Windows operating system
