Error: Record with Same Instance Name Already Exists. Please Enter Unique Value for Instance Name on BMC Helix Remedyforce.

    PROBLEM:

    When updating instances on CMDB you face error Record with same Instance Name already exists. Please enter unique value for Instance Name, even though there's no other instance with the name you entered.

     


    CAUSE:

    When you update the instance name and the location fields on CMDB, the instance relationship name gets updated as well, If for some reason you have a relationship name duplicated you will face this error even though the instance name is actually diferent.


    SOLUTION:


    The Relationship name is formed by the Location field + instance name. The relationship name gets updated when you change the Location field, If you only rename the instance, the relationship name won't change, in the other hand if you update both the location and the instance name, relationship name will be updated with the new value on location field + your new entered Instance name.

    If you get the error Record with same Instance Name already exists. Please enter unique value for Instance Name, chances are that the new relationship name being formed already exists.

    Solutions for this problem:

    Option 1:
    Rename the relationship name of the duplicated record.

    Option 2:
    Choose a different name for your existing instance.

    Option 3:

       
    1. Change the location first and save
    2.  
    3. Rename your instance and click Save
