    QUESTION:

Trying to execute blasadmin or blappconf tool to configure application server settings return an error message like below

    # ./blappconf -i
    oracle.simplefan.impl.FanManager configure
SEVERE: unrecognized property while configuring FanManager
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: unrecognized property "onsRemoteConfig"
    # ./blasadmin -s _template show data all
blasadmin now running against deployment: _template
    [Database]
    oracle.simplefan.impl.FanManager configure
SEVERE: unrecognized property while configuring FanManager
[main] [ERROR] Error while retrieving database details. Please verify the database configuration.
com.bladelogic.om.infra.app.bladmin.BlAdminException: Error while retrieving the value for the option 'ConnectionString'.

    ANSWER:

As you can see in highlighted error lines, it is failing because tool doesn't recognize properties FanManager and onsRemoteConfig.

Those two properties are related to Oracle Client installation, most likely there is an installation of it in that machine.
You can unset ORACLE_HOME variable, with it blasadmin/blappconf will not try to use Oracle installation to attempt database connection and will return expected results

In this example you can see error while ORACLE_HOME is set and how it works after unset it

    #echo $ORACLE_HOME
    #/opt/oracle/product/12.1.0.2.2/
#./blasadmin -s default show data driver
blasadmin now running against deployment: default
    oracle.simplefan.impl.FanManager configure
SEVERE: unrecognized property while configuring FanManager
    unrecognized property "onsRemoteConfig"

    # unset ORACLE_HOME
    # ./blasadmin -s default show data driver
blasadmin now running against deployment: default
    DriverClass:oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
