Smart Reporting Group Data Feature not working

    Remedy/Smart reporting 9.0 and above versions



    PROBLEM:

    When trying to use "Group Data" function based on column in Smart Reporting report for Numeric/ENUM field(Status, Status Reason),report stop working and returns below error

    ERROR (552): The SQL database operation failed.; Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value 'open' to data type int.

    To reproduce the case pelase perform below steps.
    1. Create a report and add Status field in the report.
    2. Go to column and select group data option
    3. Create group like below.

    4. post saving the group data field it will return the error message in the report.
     


    CAUSE:

    ARJDBC driver does not recognize the group label for numeric field if it is in character format.


    SOLUTION:

    This is defect and reproducible in latest version(1808) as well. Defect : SW00518366

    as a workaround please create a calculated field to group data based on the requirement,
    like below
    CASE WHEN Status IN ( 'Assigned' , 'In Progress' ) THEN 'Open' ELSE 'Closed' END
