Atrium CMDB install with error Failed to execute Rule Engine 2

    PROBLEM:

    In a POC environment, during two fresh installation attempts of Atrium Core the following failures had been discovered:

    1.)      AR Server 9.1.04 installed successfully but the Atrium Core CMDB install failed fairly quickly with the following error:

    2.)  Fresh BMC Atrium CMDB installation but would fail to restart AR Server.  The atriumcore_install_log.txt would show errors about having a timeout when trying to communicate AR Server.  The AR Server would never restart successfully.

    Another error found in the atriumcore_install_log.txt was:

    LOG EVENT {Description=[Cannot run program "/java" (in directory "/directory1/opt/bmc/ARSystem/AREmail"): error=2, No such file or directory],Detail=[Cannot run program "/java" (in directory "/directory1/opt/bmc/ARSystem/AREmail"): error=2, No such file or directory]}

    Note that /directory1 was not where the directory was pointed to but /opt/bmc was chosen as the install directory in the installer.  The soft link /opt/bmc pointed to /directory1/opt/bmc

    Also note that the error is an AR System Email error found in the atriumcore_install_log.txt.
     


    CAUSE:

    Disk space issues


    SOLUTION:

    In the first fresh install error, the Atrium Core CMDB installer had failed because the Oracle database had run out of disk space during the installation.  This caused the installer to be corrupted & the POC installation had to be redone from scratch.

    In the second install error, the Redhat Linux server being used to run the POC installation for the full suite did not have enough disk space under /opt.  More disk space was available under /directory1, so after the AR Server had been installed successfully, the AR Server was moved to /directory1/opt/bmc and a soft link was used to point back to /opt/bmc.  

    The soft-link was used to attempt to let AR Server think it was still under /opt/bmc.  However, soft-link created a problem during installation when the Atrium Core installer tried to restart AR Server to complete installation.  The AR Server would fail to start.

    In fact, trying to restart AR Server after Atrium CMDB failed its install would not even succeed manually.

    The solution in both cases was to start over on the POC & then make sure two environmental requirements were met:

    1.)  Increase Oracle disk space.
    2.)  Make sure the Linux server has ample disk space under the target directory such as /opt/bmc and also to not move the AR Server to another directory.
