    PRODUCT:

    Remedy AR System Server

    COMPONENT:

    AR System Server

    APPLIES TO:

    Remedy AR System Server 9.1.04

    PROBLEM:

    When performing an Upgrade on a Secondary AR Server using option.txt file from AR Server Version 9.1.03 to 9.1.04 following error was observed :
    ..............................

    LOG EVENT {Description=[Complete the BMC Remedy AR System, BMC Atrium CMDB, and Atrium Integrator installation on all the servers. Make sure BMC Remedy AR System upgrade status is 'Done' on AR Server Information Page, before proceeding with BMC IT Service Management installation.],Detail=[Complete the BMC Remedy AR System, BMC Atrium CMDB, and Atrium Integrator installation on all the servers. Make sure BMC Remedy AR System upgrade status is 'Done' on AR Server Information Page, before proceeding with BMC IT Service Management installation.]}
    ..............................

    As per the observation control table had
    upgradeStatus value changed to "Pending" when performing fresh installation on secondary which should have never been the case.
    Ideally secondary server is not supposed to update anything in control table or other database tables.
    And in secondary server logs showed db upgrade utility ran which should never run on any server other than primary.

    CAUSE:

    After reviewing the secondary server AR install logs found BMC_DBONLY_UPGRADE_CONFIRM = true

    SOLUTION:

    After reviewing the Secondary Server AR Install log it showed :
    ..............................

    LOG EVENT {Description=[SET PROPERTY BMC_DBONLY_UPGRADE_CONFIRM],Detail=[true]}
    ..............................

    To fix the problem we have removed the given parameter from the Option.txt silent file :
    BMC_DBONLY_UPGRADE_CONFIRM = true

    Additional Details :
    BMC_DBONLY_UPGRADE_CONFIRM  - This silent file option was used before 9.1.02 to perform upgrade of a database without file system. If a database dump is available and it's of old version, this parameter allowed to create a fresh file system pointing to this old database and upgrade it to current installer version in the process. This parameter is now deprecated starting version 9.1.02 and should no longer be used in silent file.
