    QUESTION:

Is it possible for MainView AutoOPERATOR to run a rule against messages issued by Message Advisor for IMS?

    ANSWER:

The automation options available depend on the destinations that receive messages from Message Advisor for IMS and the AutoOPERATOR components that the customer has installed.

Message Advisor for IMS includes an option to specify the destinations that receive messages using the NOTIFY keyword in the QPF_OPTIONS command set.

NOTIFY is an optional keyword for the QPF_OPTIONS command and indicates the recipients of informational messages that the Queue Protection Facility (QPF) component  issues when it takes certain actions in the IMS control region.

The Options are WTO, MTO or TSO Userid:

    • WTO - QPF sends messages to the MVS console
    •
    • MTO - QPF sends messages to the IMS master terminal
    •
    • tso-userids - QPF sends messages to the specified TSO users
    •
    • NONE - QPF does not issue messages
Please see the Message Advisor for IMS Reference Manual for further details.

AutoOPERATOR would then need to know what sort of event that Message Advisor creates:

For MVS WTOs (an MVS SVC 23), an AutoOPERATOR event type MSG rule would be needed to journal the events (this requires AutoOPERATOR for z/OS).

For IMS MTO events (Master Terminal messages) that are sent through the AOI exit, then an AutoOPERATOR event type IMS rule would be needed (this requires AutoOPERATOR for IMS).
