Are you interested in a secure, auditable file transfer solution? Control-M Managed File Transfer provides an easy to use searchable user interface, centralized management and its own FTP and SFTP server. Using MFT you can easily monitor and manage file transfers from a single location and reduce total cost of operation by installing and managing MFT through a central console.

To learn more about MFT and its benefits, join us for a Connect with Control-M live webinar on Wednesday, February 22nd  where Ted Leavitt will demonstrate:

Installing MFT

Configuring the embedded File Transfer Server

•     Using the MFT Dashboard

Here is the Q&A for this webinar (Connect with Control-M: Control-M Managed File Transfer)

________________________________________________________________

Q: Can the client plugin also be installed through SCCM?  Many of our users don't have admin access on their workstations.

A: The EM Patch 9.0.00.402 provides the ability for non-administrative users to install the plugin in the EM Client.  If this is not sufficient, please open a case with us for further assistance.

________________________________________________________________

Q: What if we have RSA keys?  Will they be transformed from the putty key format also?

A: RSA keys will be converted as well.  The puttygen tool is used for these purposes.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Is it necessary to use a different EM user than the one used to install the client when deploying the MFT?

A: No, but if you do have a problem with the deployment of the MFT to the client, where it prompts for an admin username and password, apply patch 402.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Is there any difference in MFT if we use the provided FTP server or the existing one?

A: The existing server is typically managed by the system administrator, where the FTS is going to be managed by the Control-M administrator.

________________________________________________________________

Q: In order to upgrade the existing AFT, 7 or 8, to MFT do we need a specific Fix Pack level on the source AFT or it also works with base version?

A: The MFT will upgrade from any supported version of the AFT.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Is it possible to store more than 30 days for the dashboard?

A: Yes, this is a configurable parameter.  Please reference the Control-M Administrator guide for a list of parameters.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Should the FTS be set to local?

A: When using "Local CM" this bypasses any connection to a FTP or SFTP-server and deals directly though the Agent.

________________________________________________________________

Q: For accounts within the FTS, if we use OS login, can we use the HOME_Directory defined within the OS as the home directory?  Even if it is on a different server, say using UNC paths?

A: The home directory is going to be accessed using whatever user the Agent is running as.  If this user has permission to the user's home directory and it is accessible from the Agent host as that user, it can be used.

________________________________________________________________

Q: When is the first fix pack?

A: The MFT patch 01 is currently available via FTP.  Patch 02 should be coming in the near future.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Are the job forms the same as AFT?

A: The job forms aren't identical, but look the same for the most part.

________________________________________________________________

Q: How do I trouble shoot FTS problems?

A: First, verify TCP connectivity between the two points.  If there is connectivity and you continue to experience problem, feel free to contact support and open a new case.

________________________________________________________________

Q: We're fixing to upgrade to 9.0 from 7.0, is MFT part of the install or is it a separate install? We have been using AFT

A: The MFT is a separate install.  It is deployed to the Agents from the CCM and distributed to the EM Clients at login.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Is MFT going to replace AFT? That is AFT will not be a supported product?

A: AFT remains a supported, independent product.

________________________________________________________________

Q: For FTP server on Windows, who own the files uploaded by user?

A: The file created will be owned by the Agent service logon as user.

________________________________________________________________

Q: What are advantage of MFT over AFT? Is AFT is still available AFT for Control-M V 9.0?

A: AFT is still available for Control-M 9.  The most recent release is 8.2.00.  MFT offers a searchable dashboard interface with configurable history, the File Transfer Server and exportable statistics.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Where does FTP server gets install?

A: The FTP, a portion of the FTS, is installed on the Agent when the MFT is deployed.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Can we use or see  MFT on SelfService?

A: Yes, the MFT is visible in the SelfService.  Please take a look at the Self Service webinar @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTlNNneWvAs.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Is MFT a separate purchase from AFT?  If we are entitled to AFT, do we get MFT automatically?

A: Yes, it is a separate product.  For details of entitlement, please contact your sales rep.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Can you still run pre and post commands, like in AFT?

A: Yes, the same commands are possible in the Advanced dialog.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Is there any size limit of file transfer?

A: No, there is no limitation imposed by the MFT or FTS itself.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Does migrating from AFT 8.0 FP1 or 8.2 to MFT 9.0 involves any AFT job changes?

A: No job changes are required.

________________________________________________________________

Q: Does FTP server support Passive and non-passive transfer?

A: Yes, PASV and non-passive mode transfers are supported.

________________________________________________________________

Q: If any customer wants to use his own FTP server, can we integrate somehow with MFT?

A: The remote FTP server can still be used.  It is specified in the connection profile like any other FTP server.

________________________________________________________________

Q: FTP server over SSL, what is security level 2, 3, 4 supported?

A: The client supports the same configuration levels as it did prior.

________________________________________________________________

Q: I like how you no longer need to set up mated pairs before defining jobs:  When setting up an MFT job, all defined accounts are available in the list to pair them on the fly?

A: Yes, any two single endpoints can be paired using the name of the endpoint with a plus sign in between.
