An important notice for Client Management customers using patch management features:


Statement of Direction: Hotfixes for Client Management versions will leverage an updated patch detection engine

Client Management versions 11.7 and higher can leverage an updated patch detection engine by applying any of the BCM hotfixes for Client Management versions 11.7, 12.0, 12.1, and 12.5 released on Friday, December 16, 2016.


BMC encourages customers relying on Client Management’s patch inventory or patch deployment capabilities to apply the cumulative hotfix for Client Management at their earliest convenience.


Without applying the hotfixes to Client Management, customers will no longer be able to receive updated patch definition files after the end of February 2017.  While the existing patch detection engine will continue to function, it will do so without access to new patches and Service packs released after February 2017. 


Reason for the change

The current patch detection engine used in Client Management is from Shavlik.  Shavlik has created a new patch detection engine and we are updating Client Management software to include the new patch engine via the hotfixes mentioned above.


Detailed information about the change

The patch engine included in BCM version 11.6 and earlier is still working, but has not had any patch updates in years.

Shavlik will stop providing patch updates at the end of February 2017 for their patch engine version 9.0, which is currently included in BCM 11.7 to 12.5. The engine will continue to work after that date, but there will be no more patch updates provided.

Shavlik will stop providing patch updates at the end of 2018 for their patch engine version 9.1. This is the version included in the hotfixes for BCM versions 11.7 to 12.5.

We plan to include the latest version of the patch engine (9.2) in our BCM release in 2017.
